Acronis OS Selector No Workee
When I try to boot into Windows XP Pro off Acronis OS Selector the applet returns me to the start screen. When I try to boot into Ubuntu 10.04 Acronis Os Selector takes me to the Grub2 menu. From grub I can boot easily into Ubuntu. When I try to boot into Windows off grub I get a black screen of death. The death screen offers me the options of: 'last known good configuration', and three variants on 'safe mode'. None of these 4 options gets me into windows. What do I do? I have already tried re-installing Acronis OS Selector and re-activating Acronis OS Selector. My goal is to get into Windows and find a restore point. That's my goal!
(NOTE: I brought this down on myself by uninstalling (from Windows) a freeware hard drive monitor called: HDD Health)

Yes. But if I do a system restore: (1) Won't that erase all my software and My Docs from Windows XP Pro? (2) Will I also lose everything in my Ubuntu 10.04 partition?
Seems to me there should be some way I can get into Windows and get to a restore point. Also, I have a 500 GB external hard drive while my laptop is only 250 GB. Is there some way I might image the entire disc on the lap top, clear the hard drive on the lap top, and then restore both operating systems with all my programs and files intact?
Thanks Mister Crab

A System Restore is restoring a restore point. You won't lose your software, documents, etc. This is not the same as restoring the computer to a clean/factory condition. The Ubuntu partition wouldn't be changed.
Normally, you boot to the XP CD and select to use the Recovery Console. The actual restore has to be done manually by copying the resgistry files from the restore point to the system. Not nearly as easy as Vista or Windows 7.
Have you looked on the help or support forum for HDD Health to see if there were any specific instructions for fixing this type of problem? Usually, in cases where uninstalling causes major problems there are KB articles or forum topics covering it.
Imaging the currently corrupted drive and restoring it back won't fix the problem. However, it's always good to have a backup.

Dear Mister Mud Crab-
1. From the grub 2 menu in Ubuntu 10.04 I can get to a black screen of death for Windows XP pro (offering me like 4-6 options) by tapping repeatedly on the F8 key. Which one of the safe mode options will work? Can you suggest anything? I have my Windows XP Pro install CD. But I am reluctant to try to boot off of it, as I installed XP Pro under one password and then quickly changed to my everyday password. (You guessed it, I did not make a record of my installation password!). 2. What about the Acronis OS Selector option of finding XP Pro in the master boot record? The windows error message includes: 0x00000024 (0x00190203, 0x8F005C58, 0xC0000102, 0x00000000) Do you know what these numbers mean?
