Acronis True Image Home, build 7046 and Acronis Disk Director, build 216 do not peacefully co-exist on the same machine

Thread needs solution

There appears to be a problem when you install Acronis Disk Director, version 11 on the same machine with Acronis True Image Home 2010, build 7046. Once you have installed ADD and attempt to start ATI you receive an error message that says,"The older version of the Acronis product component has been detected. The computer must be rebooted for correct operation of Acronis True Image Home. Do you want to reboot the computer now." Then if you reboot the machine and try to run ATI again you get the same message again. Once you remove Acronis Disk Director 11 from the system you get a different error message when you try to execute ATI. The system complains that afcdpapi.dll was not found reinstalling the application will correct this condition. If you reinstall ATI 2010, build 7046 then ATI functions just fine.

Either application seems to work just fine as long as the other application is not on the machine. This has happened on two of my systems that are running Windows XP. One system is a desktop machine and the other is a laptop if that makes any difference.

Has anyone else observed or complained about this problem?

Hello Virgil,

Please accept our profound apologies for the difficulties you've experienced.

Let me help you.

Installation of Acronis Disk Director 11.0 Home over Acronis True Image Home 2010 sometimes does not correctly update the Acronis drivers responsible for disk access. However, there's a workaround:

  1. Download Acronis Low-level Drivers Update;
  2. Extract the downloaded ZIP-file, launch the extracted installation file and complete the installation;
  3. Reboot the machine.

The issue should be fixed. If the above does not fix the issue, delete the InstallReboot subkey from Windows registry:

  1. Invoke Windows Registry:
    • Hit Start-Run:

        or

    • Type in regedit and hit Enter:

  2. Navigate to the following subkey:
    • Windows 32 bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\InstallReboot
    • Windows 64 bit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Acronis\InstallReboot
  3. Delete the InstallReboot subkey:

    (!) If there is no InstallReboot subkey in the registry, then this is a different issue and needs investigation. Please contact Acronis Customer Central for assistance.

If none of the above helps, then the issue is not covered in this article and needs investigation. In this case, please contact Acronis Customer Central.

Please reply to this thread if you need any further assistance.

Thank you.

Same problem as Virgil. Seems like the driver fix worked as advertised for me. Saved me a bunch of trouble I'm sure. Another issue I had installing DD11 was I had to select me as the only user otherwise the install aborted. Is that normal? Another fix? As long as I'm asking questions - when will Acronis DD support alignment on Hard Drives and on an SSD. I have used Paragon's Alignment Tool and after much trial and tribulation managed to get two of my three machines aligned but for some unknown reason it will not align the boot partition on the third one. It sure would be nice it that tool/feature were part of DD or some other Acronis product.

Hello Ken,

Thank you very much for your useful suggestion, I have forwarded it to the responsible department. Most likely this feature will be implemented in future builds of Acronis Disk Director.

We'll surely let you know about that new feature.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.Thank you.

Ilya,

The low-level drivers update corrected the problem that I was seeing. I don't know why I didn't see this during the ADD11 beta testing because I tested on this machine. I guess I simply failed to check for compatibility with other Acronis products. I will pay more attention on future betas. Thanks again for your help.

None of the above seems to work for me. I can get rid of the reboot request by deleting the registry key, but TI Home 2010 then won't work. It tries to start and then gets closed by Windows. I tried to repair the installation of TI Home 2010 but no luck, still won't start. Only thing I could do was to go back to a restore point where DD11 was not installed. What is the correct way to have both DD11 and TI Home 2010 on the same machine ?

Hello John,

Same Problem here since 2010 and again in 2011 True Image. It is unbeliveable that Acronis does nothing since 2 Years to fix this Bug.

Cordialement
