Boot probs after win7

I have 2 questions:

1. I installed win7 to the second partition of a Vista based system. The installation finishes fine, but the computer cannot boot anymore from the HD. Pre win7 the Vista booted fine.
It simply shows a black screen with blinking cursor now. If I now press ctrl+alt +del I (sometimes) get the options to change the start device and on choosing the DVD it offers to reinstall win7. I tried repairing the start with the windows 7 DVD, (at the installation option for language etc) but it cannot repair it either on compatibility grounds.

Any idea how to repair the Boot problem?

I have on an other system XP(first system) and Vista (Dual Booting). I would like to replace the XP with windows 7. Is it possible and if so how?
