Bootable Rescue Media hangs when selecting Full mode

Thread needs solution

I have created a Bootable Rescue Media CD and booted with it. When I select the "Full" option for Acronis Disk Director the system hangs. When I select the "Safe Mode" option, the external SATA drives are not visible.

When I select the "Full" option for True Image everything is OK. The eSATA drives are visible and accessible - that's where I keep my backups.

The Acronis Disk Director version is v10.0 (build 2,288).

The Acronis True Image version is TI Home 2011 build 6574 - upgraded from TI Home 2010 yesterday. By the way, I had no problem with the previous version of TI either. The problem seems to be isolated to Acronis Disk Director. Is this a problem only with my setup, or a limitation of the product?

I'm running Win XP Pro SP3. I have two eSATA drives connected to a Rosewill RC-219 Silicon Image PCI Express eSata x2 NCQ non-RAID SATA II Controller Card.

Have you tried the ISO download for DD 10 available in your Acronis account? It may have newer drivers.

I did today. The results with the ISO version are worse than the Bootable Rescue Media CD built through the utility.

I booted with the Bootable CD made from the ISO version and was presented a menu with 6 options:
1. Acronis Disk Director 10.0 Suite
2. Acronis Disk Director 10.0 Suite without "quiet"
3. Acronis Disk Director 10.0 Suite [acpi=off noapic]
4. Acronis Disk Director 10.0 Suite [acpi=off noapic] without "quiet"
5. Acronis Disk Director 10.0 Suite nousb mode
6. Acronis Disk Director 10.0 Suite nousb mode without "quiet"

I tried all 6 options without success at all. On the non-verbose options (1,3,5) the system was hung with "Loading, please wait...".
On the verbose (without "quiet") options (2,4,6) the system was still hung but at least I could see that it had trouble with the SATA drivers:

After this line ---> " using /lib/modules/Sata_Sil24.o "
it displayed some drive related data:
ata1: SATA max UDMA/100 ...... IRQ11
ata2: SATA max UDMA/100 ...... IRQ11

At this point I had to reboot.

After these unsuccessful attempts, I booted the system without the external eSATA drives (I had them powered-off), but the results were the same. Again with the verbose options I was able to determine that the drivers on the ISO version are worse than those from the utility built bootable. With the utility built bootable, when I select the "Safe" version I don't get the eSATA drives, but I can still get to the internal SATA drives (I have 3 internal SATA drives). With the ISO built bootable, the verbose options would stop after displaying the copyright info about BusyBox.

Once I exited the shell, I got a popup with the error message "Acronis Disk Director Suite has not found any Hard Disk Drives".

That indicated to me that the drivers did not recognize even the SATA ports on the motherboard, since I had already powered-off the external drives.

I'm surprised that the same drivers are not used by both, Acronis True Image and Acronis Disk Director, when building the Bootable Rescue Media CD.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I can boot with the Bootable Rescue Media CD built by the Acronis True Image media build utility and select the "Full version" without any problems.

I would like to be able to do the same with the Disk Director so that I can manage the hard-drives (partition, etc) outside of windows.

I don't know if Acronis is providing any new driver support for DD 10. You would need to submit a support request or send a PM to an Acronis member and ask.

DD 11 has a newer kernel and may include the drivers you need. You could trial it and find out.
