BSOD Installing ADD 11 Build 2121 on Windows7 64bit

Thread needs solution

I got a BSOD after installing ADD 11 Build 2121 with the message:
snapman.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
See attachment.
I first uninstalled the old ADD 11 Build 216 and ATI 2011 Build 5519 and ran true_image_home_cleanup.exe to have a clean install. I rebooted then and tried to install ADD 11 Build 2121 and got the above mentioned BSOD!

I already read the threads concerning BSOD related to snapman.sys-driver. That is the reason I removed all old Acronis-Releases and ran the Acronis-cleanup-tool true_image_home_cleanup.exe. I checked, that all registry-values mentioned in the thread you pointed me to are removed and also all Acronis software-directories are removed. Also in the C:\windows\system32\drivers-directory, the snapman.sys files is not present. Neither snapapi.dll nor snapapivss.dll is present in C:\Windows\SysWOW64-directory.

I checked using Sysinternals-Autoruns that no Acronis-Driver is loaded. I rebooted. So I feel, that all old Acronis-drivers are successfully removed.

After that, I installed of ADD11 Build 2121 and it crashed with the BSOD related to snapman.sys. So, because I removed all Acronis drivers before, the crash could not be caused by an incompatible old Acronis driver.

My guess is that there is still an entry to SNAPMAN.sys in registry or it doesn't match the version that is actually on your system.

You haven't said which OS you are using.

Are you able to boot into Windows Safe mode so that you can access regedit?

In Windows Device Manager with hidden devices enabled is there an Acronis Device entry?

Check to see if SNAPMAN appears in these entries is in registry

# HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -> LowerFilters
# HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} -> UpperFilters

Only delete the SNAPMAN entry leave all others as they are.

If you are using XP the Lower Filters entry won't exist.

I use Windows7 64bit (as I said in the title of the thread), having Microsoft Windows-Update enabled.

I was able to reboot normal after the crashed ADD11 installation. After cleaning and running the Acronis cleanup-tools I found:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} -> UpperFilters has the value PartMgr only

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F} --> LowerFilters has the value fvevol only, the value UpperFilters exists but is empty.

Device manager with hidden devices visible shows no Acronis device, I had removed the entry during running of the Acronis cleanup-tool.

I made a search in the directory C:\windows and no file snapman.sys was found, only the files I renamed to snapman.sys.old, snapman.sys.old2 from my installation tries.

No snapman.sys-driver-file exists before I started ADD11 installation, and it crashed again.

According to Microsoft's KB the error code thrown at the BSOD relates to display adapter drivers, hardware or A/V software problem.

I would open up MSConfig and untick all startup and services items apart from Microsoft ones (obviously no AV will mean connection ot internet not a good idea). Then reboot - if no BSOD, bring the AV back on line via the Services only, if no BSOD, then the startup part of the AV.

Next the Video driver after that anything like card readers, fingerprint readers, graphics tablets.

Microsoft have a KB (relates specifically to XP SP1 but might be worth checking for W7) that shows how to use Sysinfo (msinfo32 on W7) to hunt down inf files that can cause this problem.

The last thing to check would be RAM for which Memtest86 is the way to go, but it needs to run for at least 12 hours to be of any use.

I'm not sure, if I understand you right. I never had problems with drivers or memory, nor crahes or BSODs, my PC runs well and with good performance.
I use ATI-Catalyst-display-driver and Realtek-Audi-driver. I guess, these drivers are commonly used on many PCs.
If I uninstall my video or audio driver, I am not able to use the full features of my PC. I think, that makes no sense.

As my PC runs well before ADD11-installed and after removed the crashed ADD11-install, I feel, that the problem must be solved by Acronis-snapman.sys-driver and not by any other driver or hardware. The first and only BSOD is that during install of ADD 11 Build 2121!

Are you now saying that ADD 11 is now working OK?

My comments were directed to the possible causes of the BSOD that you posted in your first post.

AV in my post referred to AntiVirus not audio visual.

Sorry for my bad english. I wanted to say, that I have never had problems with my PC, except the BSOD that I got in every installation try with ADD11-2121. I disabled the AntiVirus-Software and the BSOD still occurs.

Now, after many years working with Acronis ADD (and TI), I feel it may be time to say goodbye to these. I tried to install Easeus Partion Master (6.5.2 home). The installation astonishingly went successfull and a test (modify partition) also well. I have no fun anymore to spend many hours with searching an installation problem with ADD-drivers. I think, the snapman.sys-driver crash is the responsibility of Acronis.
