Can I Use DSS to effect This Scheme? Is it possible to be realized?

Thread needs solution
firstly, I need to now where to install DSS/OSS.

Consider these circumstances:

  • External enclosure (or external hdd) connected to mobo by usb 2.0
  • C\: internal with Vista-32 as exclusive resident
  • 64-bit architecture
  • CD/DVD and A:\floppy drives
  • As an option, I can add a D:\ internal
I want to install several *Nix'es onto the external enclosure and onto C:\, and to be able to boot to any OS.

if this scheme can not be realized (please explain why), then can i effect it by installing the OS's onto C:\ and D:\?

Hello Neal,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

We do not guarantee the correct functionality of Acronis OS Selector with the operating systems installed on external devices. Therefore, it will be preferable to install them onto internal hard drives.

Actually, if you install the operating systems onto different partitions, Acronis OS Selector should detect them and after that you should have a multi boot system that will allow you to select the desired operating system from within the program interface.

If the program fails to detect the new operating system, please use the OS detection tool to add it to the boot menu using the OS detection tool. You can learn more on how to use this tool in the User guide for Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 available on our web site here (chapter 7.11).

Please note that Acronis OS Selector does not substitute a Unix loader, so it is better to install a Unix loader to the boot sector of the partition you plan to install Unix proper to.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawless for you. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.
