Cannot create a partition on RAID 1 Drive

Thread needs solution

Just installed 2 new Samsung drives and installed Windows 7 Ultimate. They are set up as a RAID 1 (MIRROR) system. I now am trying to create a partition but every time I try nothing happens... it reboots a few times but then no new partition is created.

Any ideas?

Matthew:

Try the operation from the boot CD. Windows 7 will resist changes to its system partition while it is running, so any time that you need to make a change that affects the system partition, it needs to be done outside of Windows from the boot CD.

If you haven't yet created a boot CD, go to the Tools menu and start the Bootable Media Builder application. Include both full (Linux-based) and safe (DOS-based) versions on the boot CD. With a RAID array it is very important that DD sees the array as one disk. If you see the two RAID disks listed separately then do not proceed. Instead try the other version of DD on the boot CD.

Hello,

MATTHEW,

I would like to explain what does the other version of Acronis Disk Director CD mean. Kolo advised you to try Acronis Bootable Rescue Media based on ISOLINUX.

ISOLINUX Bootable Media is usually more up to date than the Acronis Loader one. This is due to the fact a new version of Acronis Bootable Media is uploaded to the web site more frequently than regular product updates are released.

You can download the appropriate file after logging in to your account. Please see this article for information on how to do it.
