Cannot install latest build in W7 RTM
I was able to use the build 2160 of DD on W7 beta and RC1, however build 2239 does not recognise W7 RTM as a valid operating system.
I think this is an installer problem, as on my laptop DD10 was already installed under Vista and the "upgrade" to W7 beta was over the top.
I hope DD10 will shortly be W7 enabled.
Just to make matters even more annoying, I've booted into my XP environment and the new build will not install over the old one. OK, wander off to control panel to uninstall DD10, the uninstaller reports itself as corrupted and removes it's entry from the list. So DD10 2160 is still installed and I'm now going to have to manually remove it through registry.
Not exactly thrilled!

I've solved the XP problem, had to run the installer as Administrator, however that doesn't work in W7 64 bit RTM 7600.
It seems to me to be somewhat short sighted to bring out a new build, that isn't ready for an imminent major OS release.
This is bizarre, I now have two instances of DD10, one 2239 and the other 2160.

On October 7th -- 2 weeks before the official start of regular Windows 7 sales -- the DiskDirectorSuite 10.0 still does not install on this operating system. Download of the existing version on October 7th offered no solution. Note: the server version installs OK, so it is just the home version with the OS check that is causing problems!

No suggestions yet, but Microsoft is working on a Windows 7 Compatibility web site. It's not up and running as of the current date, but should be up soon.
Meanwhile, the general advice from Microsoft is that any program that is compatible with Vista should be compatible with Windows 7. Here is the Vista compatibility web site for Acronis products, so in theory they should also be compatible with Windows 7. But we know better...

I have raised a case number [00344005] on the 3rd October (Australian time) the acknowledgement arrived on the 4th, but no further contact to report as yet.
Just as an aside, Acronis were at the recent Gold Coast, Microsoft Windows 7, Technet Event, where I was working. I see that their German competitor is W7 approved by Microsoft.
PS:
Just realised the above statement was misleading, as it is the disk imaging that is W7 approved not the partition managing software as yet.

Hello all,
Thank you for using Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0
Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 and Acronis Disk Director Server 10.0 do not support Windows 7. The compatibility will be implemented for the next version of the program, i.e. for Acronis Disk Director Suite 11.0 and Acronis Disk Director Server 11.0.
The exact date of the new version release is unknown.
Thank you.

Thanks for the reply Oleg,
I would suggest that Marketing look at the wording to the 'Special Offers' webpage on the US site (this doesn't exist on the Australian site and I haven't checked the others), whereby there is a bundle, buying TI2010 and DD10.
The marketing spiel promotes the W7 readiness of TI2010, and I think many people would automatically assume that DD10 would also work, as they are being advertised together. An additional note/clause saying that DD10 will not work on W7 might save a lot of aireated purchasers venting themselves here and to the Chat staff.
I've pasted the advert below.
"Using the combination of two great Acronis' products you will always have your critical data perfectly organized and completely protected. This will save your time and reduce your storage requirements. Backup and restore your entire hard drive, including the operating system, applications, configuration files, hidden system files and all of your data Resize, move, copy, split and merge partitions without losing your data Try Windows 7, or Linux, or any other new OS and keep using software and applications that work under your old one Reorganize the hard disk drive structure and explore partition data before performing partitioning operations. Roll back to any point in time in the past with Acronis Non-Stop Backup providing you total continuous data protection Save your files over the Internet to a secure location with Acronis Online Backup"

Hello all,
Bodgy, it's a good point regarding the text of the promo offer. I've forwarded it to our Marketing Team and asked them to comment and improve it.
Thanks,

Bodgy,
What's the name of the German product that supports Windows 7?

The funny thing here though is that DD10 version 2160 works fine with W7. I know this because I was using DD10 with W7 64bit at the weekend to re-size one of the HD after wiping Hardy Heron and the dual boot. I can never fathom Acronis thinking i.e. they release an upgrade that won't work with W7 but the existing release will?

I'm also an Australian registered user who bought the combo deal from the USA website.
I assumed that both products would work with Windows7, 64-bit.
What's the score? Are we entitled to a free upgrade to DD 11.0 when it is released?

I've been checking the webpage and noted that Acronis have decided not to bother amending it.
*/RANT MODE ON*/
A large proportion of the complaints and gripes about and to Acronis could be avoided if their communications were more thought out and pre-emptive.
If either before, or on the day they released the latest DD build, they had explained that it wasn't W7 compatible and WHY they had made it so, not only would they not be getting the complaints about people having bought a product that doesn't work on their system, but also those of us who have the older build, would have been more able to more easily accept the fact it won't install on W7. Rather than waiting for a ton of mud to hit the fan and yet again damage part of their reputation.
This applies to all Acronis products in this regard.
This is also not made any better, by the fact that no matter how good the support peoples English is, they are not native English speakers and occasionally, meanings get mangled in translation, heck I sometimes have a problem with American and Australia English where idioms are different, so someone who has not learnt English from a very early age can't be expected to 'get it right' (trade marked by ME) everytime.
*/RANT MODE OFF*/
The above was an unscheduled rant and run manually. Scheduled rants may be scheduled, archived and consolidated in future scribblings. :)

The funny thing here though is that DD10 version 2160 works fine with W7 - from my earlier post.
You will also find if you go to "my account" and then product upgrades/downloads there is an option to download the iso version of the latest build. Once downloaded use the iso to make a CD and then boot DD10 from that rather than from within Windows. This is what Acronis are advising users to do and is probably a safer bet when making alterations to disk partitions etc.

Hello all,
I completely agree with Faust, you can perform the desired operations under Acronis Bootable Rescue Media. The possibility to install Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 build # 2239 in Windows 7 has been disabled. I have placed the explanations in this thread.
gxdata,
Every request concerning a discount or providing with a free upgrade needs a separate attention. If you feel that you are eligible for free upgrade, please submit a request to Acroinis Customer Service Department after the next version release. The appropriate person will take into consideration your opinion and will provide you with a possible solution.
P.S. If someone wants to use Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 (build #2160) from within Windows 7, please let me know about it via PMs, I will provide you with the installation file.
Thank you.
