Cant create a partition (50 GB) from an existing primary/active partition (190 GB) in win 2003 server
Hi guys, so as the title explains, I have a windows 2003 server running. I installed Disk Director 10 Server Edition, once installed it asks me to reboot. I reboot then go into DD 10 and select automatic mode, click on create partition, select use free space off an existing partition, select the right partition, allocate 50 GB to the new partition (Logical) from the existing partition with 180 GB free space, assign a free letter with NTFS, then I commit the job then it asks me to reboot. While it reboots it create the partition and then logs back in. When I check my computer the partition was not created and everything is just how it was normally....
What can be the issue?
thanks
joe

Hopefully, you have an Entire Disk Image backup. There's always a risk of data loss when making partitioning changes.
Hi Mudcrab, thank you for your reply. When you say "You could also try doing it in steps and applying each change before doing the next one (resize, apply, create partition, apply)." , do you mean committing? by pressing that flag at each step?
EDIT: so I just did that, resize the 190 GB -> 100 GB, reboot and when it loaded up again it was the same 190 GB with no changes applied. Seems like the software doesn't work... unless I try with the CD now...

Usually, when the reboot mode fails it's because TI can't find something or it detects something wrong. In those cases, it's best to try from the CD where you have full manual control and can see what's happening.
Yes, I meant "commit" when I said to apply.

Hi mud, I cant seem to find my CD so I made a bootable CD from the software. It creates an .iso file but there doesn't seem to have anything in the .iso file if I open it up to see whats inside. Its completely empty. Then I try burn it and boot from CD and that doesn't work either...

The booting files can't be seen in a regular look inside some of the ISO files. I use UltraISO to extract the BIF, which contains the files.
Does burning the CD directly with Media Builder work?
Do you get an error when you boot from the CD?
There should be an ISO available for download in your Acronis account. You could try that.

Hello all,
Thank you very much for posting and I really appreciate your generous assistance Mudcrab.
Joe,
I will certainly help you with this issue.
From your description it appears that there is some sort of an external USB device connected to your computer, either a hard disk or a card reader. You can try disabling them and try the operation from Windows one more time. Please check this article for additional information.
Unfortunately I was not able to find any registered products in your Acronis web-account, otherwise I could have sent you a private message with the latest bootable media so that you can use to workaround the Windows issue. You can though, download the bootable media from any other account that you may have with us and perform the necessary operations.
Please let me know if you have additional questions.
Thank you.
