can't use bootable media

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to bring up my hard disks into a new computer.  The old computer developed a problem with the disk controller, so I've got some "trash" on my disks.  They're being recognized in the new computer (I can boot from a different boot CD and get to all the partitions successfully), but DD can't seem to figure this out.  I built a bootable media CD from within the product (on another computer), but this hangs when it starts.  I get the spash screen and the OSS on screen, but it locks up hard (keyboard light status is frozen).  I've now downloaded and tried the "new" ISO.  This starts fine, but can't find the drives (E000101F4 error).

Any other suggestions?

Note...the OS on the drives is WinXP32, but the boot sector is Win7..It's a RAID pair, but can separate them...Tried both ways...still no good..

It should not matter which OS is installed on the disk(s). DD boots from its own operating system.

When you built your bootable CD did you include both "full" and "safe" mode versions? Try booting to the safe mode version, which should support any internal disks that are visible to the BIOS. The "full" mode version is Linux-based and may not contain the correct RAID driver support.

I didn't see any option for full or safe, only "do it".

RAID driver shouldn't matter, since I'm using simple IDE mode at the moment.  I have a "spare" drive attached that's letting me boot up, so I'm working on the "upgrade" now for the new drivers for the new system.

This is a Shuttle SN78sh7 with an AMD Phenom II 3-core 720...if that may matter..

The ISO that you downloaded will behave as you describe. To get the safe mode version you have to include both full and safe mode programs when you create a bootable CD with Bootable Media Builder. If you did not do this then you need to make another boot CD with both programs included.

OK, safe mode is on there.  How do I engage it at startup?

From reading other posts, it seems that the option is supposed to present itself when the media starts up.

In this case, it freezes before the option is presented.

After the CD boots, select Safe Version from the menu:

i get the spash screen, but #1) the screen is much larger than can be displayed, so the option for safe mode isn't visible, and #2) the splash screen is all I get, and then it freezes.

Do you have another PC that you can test-boot the Acronis CD on? Try full, safe, and the updated ISO until you find a machine and a mode that works. But this workaround would then require that you be able to attach your drive(s) to the other PC and partition them there. If RAID-1 you could do that to one drive, put it back in the target PC, attach the second drive and let the RAID manager rebuild the array. If RAID-0 this probably won't work.

All I can think of at the moment is that your hardware is too new for the drivers included with DD.

Another suggestion is to download and try with PartedMagic. It's Linux-based but graphical enough to be understandable to a Windows user. Their driver support is pretty up-to-date.
