Cloning Assistance => Won't boot..... HELP!
Ok... just got Disk Director to migrate my 250g netbook drive to a faster, but smaller 240g Sandisk SSD. Looking forward to some improved performance but need to clone my old drive over to the SSD.
Clicked "Clone Basic Disk"
Clicked on the SSD as a target (the new drive is plugged into a Thermaltake Enclosure)
Clicked Next
"Use proportional volume resizing:" is highlighted because of the smaller target, clicked Finished
Clicked "Commit pending operations"
It restarts the computer
Big question.... the cloning operation goes to sleep every 15 minutes. Is this normal? Netbook is plugged into wall and Win7 screen saver is disabled. I have to tap the space bar to wake up the netbook and then I can see the drive light come back flashing.
Also after seeing screen progress indicators during the reboot. Recovering from the sleep shows NOTHING. Screen is blank and all I can do watch the flashing drive LED and guess something is happening. After 5 or 6 times of waking the netbook the cloning is completed.
Or is it? After it finishes, the netbook just continues to reboot. The netbook works fine after I unplug the USB drive. I then replace the netbook drive with the cloned SSD. The cloned drive has the netbook constantly rebooting. I had to install the old spindle drive and the netbook is back to normal.
HELP!
My netbook is a Lenovo S10-t3. It has Win7 starter, but it's configured for dual boot with Ubuntu.
Best guess.... the clone drive "GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3.4" did not get cloned across properly. When the netbook tries to start the OS selector, the netbook abends and then restarts.... over and over again.
What should I do next?

Also, it's not uncommon for GRUB2 to break and need to be reinstalled or repaired in this type of situation.
If possible, try doing the cloning by putting the original drive into the enclosure and SSD installed internally. This would also avoid the sleep issues, which could possibly be causing a problem (but probably aren't).
Spent $200 and bought a second SSD that's bigger than the original 250g drive. Did not make a difference.
Tried what you suggested. Got the original drive corrupted somehow. Luckily it was able to repair itself by going to a previous restore point.
