Combined Boot Disk DiskDirector11 and TrueImage11 does not Work
I've Acronis TrueImage11 Build 8105 and DiskDirector11 Build2121 installed on my XP-Pro System. I've created a Boot-Disk containing TI11, DD11 and OS Selector. TrueImage 11 does start properly, DiskDirector 11 is loading, then the Error message "Unable to load initial ramdisk" is displayed.
How can that be solved? Thx Ernie

Hi,
I tried both ways to create the boot disk. Under TrueImage and DiskDirector same result.
Having 2 separate disks is not really attractiv. So what ist left? Buying TI 2010 and finding out
if it works?

Does the DD CD work correctly if you create it from DD and only include DD? If not, you may need to do a reinstall of DD. Sometimes the Media Builder components get corrupted. This seems to happen more when mixing an old version with a new version.

Hello MudCrab,
deinstalled DD. Reboot - Reinstall DD. Create DD Bootdisk only. Same result. Ends with Ramdisk Error.

hello ernst,
the long term objective would be to get the "combined boot disk", of course. but first you'll have to do some systematic troubleshooting.
searching the forum for "Unable to load initial ramdisk" gives loads of results.
some recommendations from my end:
1) type of bootable media
in the past the following hint was given: if you create the CD via "bootable rescue media builder" it will use the "acronis loader". if you download the ISO from your customer account it will use "ISOLINUX". so you should also try downloading the most recent ISO and check if there are any differences.
however, i just found some KB article and it seems this difference between "isolinux" and "acronis loader" is no longer true with most recent acronis products?
2) corrupt media
in some cases it turned out that the bootable media was corrupt, actually.
try to burn the CD at reduced speed. try a different brand of CD.
i personally don't believe much in this "corrupt media" theory as i'm always doing a verify on the CD media i just burned. if it was "corrupt" it would fail during verification process, wouldn't it? however, some users on this forum have reported success with this approach.
3) memory
make sure your RAM is OK. boot from Memtest86+ and let it run for several hours.
4) CD drive
i had some related problems booting from rescue media that got solved by installing the latest firmware of my DVD drive!
and maybe checking for an updated MOBO's BIOS may also help.

Hello Philipp,
thank you for your hints. I have a combined Bootdisk already. With TI11 Build 8.105 and DD Build 11.0.216. So, I do not expect, that the problem is on my system. I was just checking new Versions of my DI and DD and found DD Build
2121. When the creation of the combined boot disk failed I checked for a known problem and opened the question in the forum and expected a quick solution. Since I just want to use an option Acronis has included in DI and DD,
software I have paid for, I am not interested to spend hours and hours to get this solved. If Acronis does not care for - good to know.
Any way thanks again for your support. Kind regards, Ernst

Hello, I have True Image 2016 (latest build 6571) and Disk Director 12. How can I combine the two on a usb flash when I make a rescue media? Thank you.

Hello JY Lee,
Thank you for your posting! Please make sure all installed components are updated to the latest build (Acronis True Image 6571, Acronis Universal Restore 40028 and Acronis Disk Director 12 3270). Then start creating Acronis Bootable Media as described here and select both Acronis True Image and Acronis Disk Direktor components. Here you will find additional information.
Thank you,

Hello Ekaterina,
Thank you for your reply with the suggestions. I have not tried Universal Restore does, but am wondering what it does. I have a few more questions below.
1) Also, if I prefer to make a WinPE-based bootable media, do I need to install the addon installer in my account? How different is it compared to the built-in WinPE bootable option in the main True Image program?
2) Can I use a WinPE bootable media for other machines in different settings? WinPE requires an installation of Windows ADK, and I want to install it just on one machine.
3) If I want to add specific drivers to WinPE bootable media, how can I do it?
Thanks!

Hello Ekaterina,
I've installed all three as you suggested, and made a WinPE-based bootable media. It included Univeral Restore, TI 2016, and DD 12. TI 2016 can detect my M.2 drive, but DD 12 still cannot. If I want to delete and recreate partitions to restore a TI back-up image, how do I proceed? When I restored my previous Windows 10 using the image, TI 2016 failed the recovery operation. When I rebooted my XPS 15 9550 with a PCIe M.2 drive at the end of the recovery operation, the system could not detect the M.2 drive. This is a serious bug, and I am quite disappointed in TI as a long-term user.

Hello JY Lee,
You don't need to download the ADK for every system, the Deployment Kit is required only to build a WinPE-based bootable media once. You can boot all your machines with it. You can add specific drivers for your hardware as described in the point 7 of the following article.
Thank you,

Hello Ekaterina,
Actually that's exactly what I did to make sure that my M.2 PCIe driver is added to WinPE bootable media. But, when I close the TI program after making back-up images by clickng on the "x" button on the upper right corner or the "exit" on the menu, it freezes after showing some messages on the attached prompt menu. I heard that WinPE will not have this issue and thus made a WinPE bootable media from a post on this user forum. But, it doesn't go away. Any suggestions?

Hello JY Lee,
You must have created a Linux-based media. That is why you saw the same issue after clicking on "x" button. Behavior that you have described and screenshot provided just confirm that you have Linux-based media, not WinPE.
Actually Acronis WinPE builder does not allow to create multi-product media (e.g. Acronis True Image and Disk Director).
There is a tool created by Acronis MVP Forum Volunteer that allows you to create multi-product WinPE: Acronis True Image and Disk Director: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/71918. The only downside is that it would require you to downgrade to 2015 version of the software. I suggest that you contact Acronis Customer Central and discuss possible options.
Regards,
Slava

Hello Slava,
Yes, I realized that I created a Linux-based media. After making a WinPE-based TI 2016 bootable media, it solved the shut-down issue. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks.
