Convert Primary Disk from GPT to MBR

Thread needs solution

I have a workstation with a single 1TB drive that is split into multiple partitions. Apparently, this system came from the factory formatted with a GPT and that is causing issues currently. Can I use Disk Directory to convert this single drive from GPT to MBR?

Am I going to loose everything currently on the drive in the process of doing so?

Can I create an image backup of the drive and restore it after the conversion or is that going to put the GPT back?

I have been going through the user guide for Disk Director and it is pretty brief on this topic.

Thanks!

If current system disk is GPT, that means that OS is booting using UEFI. Disk director doesn't support UEFI, i.e. it won't be able to make operating system bootable after it converts the disk to MBR. If you make a backup of system partition (or better of all partitions) using Backup&Recovery 11 or True Image Home 2012, then reinitialize the disk to MBR and restore that backup on it, this should do the trick.

I used Acronis DDH 2011 to convert the GPD disk in my Dell PC to MBR. True enough, as the system is using UEFI, I was unable to start Windows after the conversion. I made an Acronis recovery DVD (based on the Linix model) and successfully converted the disk back to GPD. However, the PC still refuses to boot. Is there anything else I should try before returning my system to Dell for repair, or would you now declare that have I irreversibly "bricked" my computer?

Yeah... I did the exact same thing that Chronic did, only with a new HP. Actually, I did it worse: I made TWO computers unbootable that I'm supposed to be getting ready for our business to use as cash registers. D'oh. Tell me it's possible to make the drives bootable again without losing what's on them.
