Copy OS and Booting from other HD?

Thread needs solution

How do I copy the installed Vista 64 OS to another HD and booting from there? I bought a high speed 10,000 RPM drive to speed up my video editing in Sony Vegas but it will only work on drive C:

I tried to copy the OS but the director did not ask "Copy To?" and put it on my existing D: drive, a partition on my original c: drive.

The new drive, 1 Terabyte, has 500 GB of video on it. When I formatted it, I made room for a boot tract and OS. Would there be a problem because of the existing files already on the new drive?

Stumped,

Jim

You have to select the unallocated area for the copy destination.

Note that just copying the partition may not allow it to boot properly. You may need to do some boot repairs on it afterwards. Also, you may need to check the drive letter assignments (especially for the C: drive) before booting it.

It may help if you post a screenshot of what DD shows for the drives.
