crash while patitionning

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have a packard bell laptop with vista and a 450gb HDD with 1 full partition. I wanted to use acronis to make a new partition. So when acronis rebooted my laptop and started resizing the vista partition, all went well until 83%, where my laptop went in sleep mode(maybe a hardware sleep mode commanded by the bios). I couldnt get it to go out of sleep mode so i had to reboot, but now vista wont boot. I tried every tool from the windows recovery system but everything failed.

So, now, i need a solution to rescue all the important data i have on the laptop HDD, before i format everything and create the partitions from scratch, before i reinstall vista. Or maybe there's a better solution? Maybe a trick to repair what has been changed by acronis?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Sorry to say it sounds a very bad situation, its odd that the lappy went to sleep. You could try removing the HDD from the laptop and connecting it via USB to a PC to have a look what is on there first and if needs be using the DD disk on the PC to try and recover something or even using free software like Piriform Recuva to try and see if there are any data files intact enough. I can't think of anything else I would do.

If you are lucky (big big IF) then your problem is that the BCD can no longer find the booting files.

Have you made a Vista recovery CD? I assume a Windows 7 one would work as well. This is not a TI recovery CD, I do mean Vista.

Should add, if you can find a spare 450 GB or more drive, now would be the time to make a sector by sector backup image before you go any further.
