Creating a new volume always leaves unallocated space
Hi to all!
I'm using Acronis Disk Director 11 Home on Windows XP Professional.
When I create a new volume on an empty hard disk, there are always several MB left of unallocated space after the volume.
If I decrease them, those MB become unallocated space before the volume!
I have to create another volume in the unallocated space, and merge together with the other volume.
I had this problem with any hard disk I tried.
Anyone has the same problem?

It could have to do with the alignment for SSD drives.

I believe this is by design. DD 11 now supports Windows Dynamic Volumes. A dynamic volume requires at least 1 MB of free space at the end of the disk for its housekeeping information. So I believe that DD leaves a little free space in case you have or ever want to create dynamic volumes on Windows.
In the DD 11 Help file, look up "Dynamic Disk" for a short explanation.
Hi!
Ok, but I chose to create a simple volume, not a dynamic volume
Is it dangerous what I do, that is, create a new volume in the unallocated space and then merge it with the other volume?

Mr. Wolf:
No, it isn't dangerous. You have ended up with a perfectly valid partition for a simple volume.
If you ever want to convert to a dynamic volume then you'll need to create a 1 MB block of unallocated space at the end of the disk before conversion.
