Creating a New Volume Using Unallocated Space

Thread needs solution

Hi

I am using Acronis Disk Director 11 Home v2343 (full edition - no upgrade) on W7 x64 on a Dell XPS l501x.

As per the attached image, I am trying to create new volumes (partitions) in order to store my music, office documents, spreadsheets, et cetera. However, when I right click my C:\ disk, there is no option to create a new volume, even though there is ample unallocated space.

I have read the 'Creating a New Volume' under the Help files, but it doesn't seem to make any sense bearing in mind that I cannot even 'create' a new volume.

What am I doing wrong? Am I missing something so simple??

Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.

Unallocated space and free space are not the same thing. There is currently no unallocated space on the drive.

You would need to resize the C: partition smaller (from the right edge) to create unallocated space and then you could create the new partitions by clicking on the unallocated space.

Please note that it's recommended to create an Entire Disk Image backup of the drive before making partitioning changes (unless there's nothing important on the drive).
