DD 10, merge 2 partitions stopped at 72%. Now What?

Thread needs solution

I have two partitions I tried to merge into one. It rebooted and did the process up to 72%, then it just hung there. I restarted the computer and now the computer only regognizes 1 of the partitions. DD see both partitions, but a drive letter is only next to one partition. How to I finish this process without losing any data?

Jeff:

Can you see the second partition with Windows Disk Management? If so, assign it a drive letter.

As a suggestion, the MERGE function as implemented in Disk Director is an accident waiting to happen. I would never recommend using it. Instead, copy all of the data on the partition that you'd like to eliminate to the partition that you'd like to keep. If it all won't fit, move some of it to external storage temporarily.

When you have the second partition free of data, use Disk Director to delete the empty partition. After deleting, use Disk Director to resize the partition that you'd like to keep. Any operation that will affect the Windows system partition (like resize partition) should be done from the boot CD while Windows is shut down.
