DD 10 now "forgets" hidden partition status

Thread needs solution

PROBLEM: For the last few months or so (which I think included a pre-2239 build), DD 10 has been "forgetting" changes to "hidden" mode to my partitions. What happens is this: I launch DD 10, choose "Advanced -> Hide" to hide one or more partitions, and press "Commit". DD 10 changes the partition to "hidden" and it is shown "grayed out" as it should. Everything looks good, and I do not have to restart the computer to let DD 10 commit the actions because that was already done.

Usually, I do this with a BART PE bootable CD with the Acronis DD 10 plugin, but some times I launch DD 10 from within Windows XP Pro / SP3.

But in any case, the next time I boot up, those hidden partitions "lose" their hidden status and instead show up in Windows fully mounted and they all have drive letters assigned!

This is very problematic for me since all the partitions that I hid are backup copies of the dozen or more partitions I use daily and, now that they all have drive letters assigned, I quickly run out of free drive letters such that I can't plug in a flash drive or whatnot. Another problem is that, since all those backup partitions are mounted and visible, they can be inadvertently written to, which can risk the integrity of the backups.

I've only seen this problem relatively recently. Earlier this year (2009), this problem did not occur. And while I'm using the latest build (2239), I'm moderately sure I saw this before updating to 2239.

This problem is NOT related to that described here: "Acronis Disk Director Fails to Commit Changes After Reboot" (http://kb.acronis.com/content/1659), since the partition hiding step was already committed.

Anyone else see this? Is there anything I can do?

See the background info below if you wish.

BACKGROUND: DD 10 is my favorite backup system in the whole wide world, especially now that several TB of online storage is far from unusual these days. Instead of spending a great many hours or even days backing up 6 TB using Acronis TrueImage (which I also own), I use DD 10 to copy entire multi-GB partitions to another backup hard drive in approx 10-30 minutes per partition, as opposed to a great many hours doing it with TrueImage. I can get such great speed because I connect all the drives I need directly to the internal SATA-II ports on the motherboard, saving massive amounts of time over trying to backup to an external drive because of the severe bottleneck caused by USB or Firewire or even e-SATA interfaces.

But to avoid accidental writing or corruption to the backups, as well as to keep those partitions from having drive letters assigned, I've always used DD 10 to "hide" those backup partitions so I don't have to worry about those things.

Only now, they don't stay hidden when I hide them!

Hello,

Thank you for posting, I will be happy to help, but without additional information I can’t be certain of the issue. Could you please obtain the below information and create a case?

1. Download the file;

2. Run the downloaded file twice, right after hiding the partitions and after the reboot.

The gathered information will be put in adv_report.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.

Running AcronisInfo may take up to 5 minutes.

Attach the files to your request.
