DD 11 Home: Hard Drive space disappears after resize partitions, on two different Win 7 Machines.
I have Disk Director 11 on two of my PC's at home, including a Dell Laptop E6510 running i7 processor, 4GB ram and Win7 32bit. Also have a Dell XPS410 Desktop running Intel Core 2 6400 @ 2.13 GHz and Win7 64bit.
The laptop has a single 500 GB hard drive and the 410 a dual 250 GB hard drive. Both machines are dual booted and have been running perfectly, with the issue that my operating system partitions were getting a bit tight. I have "attic" partitions on both machines not less then 33% of total disc size, for occasional storage, and to keep the drives fast by limiting use of the slower part of the platter.
All original partitions were created with DD 11. Seeing that I needed more space on the OS partitions, I used DD 11 on both machines to reduce the size of the attic partition and move that unallocated space to the OS partitions. In both cases the space was removed from the attic partition but then was ultimately lost, never making it to the OS partition, and is no longer visible in explorer or DD 11.
I've attached the DD logs from both events. Correction, I was not allowed to attach the DD logs, so I guess I can email them to someone if they would be useful... geeze
Note: I've researched the forum for similar situations and solutions, and have not found much. I see where MudCrab replies to many threads, and that is appreciated, but it seems many of his responses are confined to "booting from the DD CD", taking a "mirror image" of a drive before making changes should things go awry, and not allowing DD to script the entire process, rather doing each action one at a time. Suffice to say, I didn't do those things, and at this point it's water under the bridge, all due respect to MudCrab.
I have run the so called "Acronis Recovery Expert" to no avail, and I've run check disk on both machines with no problems found.
So, my question, as this has happened on two entirely different machines, with two common characteristics, both being Dell and both being on Win 7, albeit one 32 and the other 64 bit, and since apparently I can count on no direct support from Acronis, can anyone shed light on what's going on? DD 11 is supposed to be compatible with Win 7, am I the only one to have this problem? I'm not technically handicapped, but I'm no system administrator, would anyone have any idea's on what I can do now to recover the lost space?
PS If anyone from Acronis is listening, I've purchased 5 copies of TI Home 10, 5 upgrades to TI Home 11, plus a couple plus packs, and of course DD 10 and an upgrade to DD 11, just for my home network/family computers. TI Home has been ultimately unusable trying to backup on a NAS drive, and now what had been a good product for me in DD is another disappointment, I'm sorry to say. I've never asked for a lick of technical support, and am astounded to find out now that there is none available... Help me if you can?
