DD10 - Can I move a partition from one disk to another

Thread needs solution

I have a C: & D: partition on hard disk 0 of a Windows 2003 R2 server. I want to extend C: so need to move D:. I have loads of unallocated space on hard disk 1...

Can I move the D: partition on HD0 into the unallocated space on HD1 ?

I answer is "yes" can I still read/write to D: while it is being moved ?

I'm pretty sure DD 10 will work on 2003, but it may not (home version vs. business). If it does, you could move or copy the partition to the other drive. You can't use it while it's being moved/copied and you may need to do the procedure when booted to the DD CD. Once moved/copied you would need to update the drive letter to point to the "new" partition and then the old one could be deleted (if necessary).

Personally, I think I'd copy it since that would let you make sure everything looks okay before the source gets deleted.
