DD10: My HD is really messed up

Thread needs solution

Hello:

I currently have DD10 installed on one of my systems. I have used the OS selector to manage two Windows XP installs - Home and Pro - in parallel on the same partition (C).

Here are just a few of the problems:

  • the original OS (Xp Home) now fails when I try to boot it (can't find hal.dll)
  • I can't see the BOOTWIZ directory from the second OS (Xp Pro)
  • I have tried to install Ubuntu several times and it just won't stick.  When I create a new partition for it, the install goes fine, but then the entire partition is gone when I reboot.  I have also tried installing Ubuntu inside windows, which is permissible and quite handy.  Although the installation remains intact, GRUB thinks the partition is missing.

I would love to get my system to XP Pro only, removing all traces of the OS Selector.  However, I suspect that since the original installation was done under the OS (Xp Home) which I can no longer access, this is going be tough.

If I could gain access to the hidden BOOTWIZ directory, I might be able to grab the startup files (NTLDR, NTDETECT, BOOT.INI).  However, even with windows explorer set to show hidden files and directories, I can find it.

What can I do to expose the files I need from BOOTWIZ and make the Xp pro installation the only OS on the machine.

Thanks.

Patrick
