DD11 in BartPE only Demo Mode

Thread needs solution

Hallo,
I'm running Disk Director 11 Home under BartPE.
The program starts properly but only in demo mode with the restriction to handle only partitions up to 100MB. Although I purchased the software regularly. What's my mistake?

I checked the key in the "acronisdd.inf" and its correct.
[Software.AddReg]
0x1, "Acronis\DiskDirector","enterprise","XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX"

Frohe Weihnachten, Oliver.

Oliver,

Are you still within your 30 day support period? If so I'd raise a ticket with Acronis.

I recall something similar happening with the Linux based media with one of Acronis' recent products. I can't recall at this moment what the solution was.

How is the entry inserted into your acronisdd.inf?
I'm working with DD11 Advanced Server (German, too). In my case thre are two entries:
"...
[Software.AddReg]
0x1, "Acronis\DiskDirectorAdvanced", "{B19E2163-BB9F-4c08-A081-ECB2F49E8BB5}", "<1st_key>"
0x1, "Acronis\DiskDirectorAdvanced", "dd", "<2nd_key>"
"
where <1st_key> and <2nd_key> are keys from registry (HKLM\Software\Acronis). <2nd_key> is NOT my serial-no but a crypted key with leading spaces.
I had to complain with Acronis that my INF file was generated by a batch file with an empty entry under [Software.AddReg]. So my first trial with my BartPE ended in the same message as yours (... demo mode ...). I had to add the keys manually.
Besides that I had to complete the INF file before PEbuilder (c't version) accepted it and in the actual state DD11AS (Build 12077) doesn't work with Backup&Revovery 10 (Build 12497) on a BartPE. But that's another history...

I hope the hint above will help you to get your DD11H to run in normal mode.
If there are other problems you my contact me (auch auf deutsch!).

I found the problem. I didn't insert the crypted key properly. The leading space was the problem. Thanks for the remark concerning the key.

[Software.AddReg]
0x1, "Acronis\DiskDirector","enterprise"," 19 4 5 23 15103 30 ..."

Try to enter this key when you use the recovery CD for instance to reinstall the OSS. I have no idea why such a long key is necessary. Acronis really tries to get rid of their customers. To respond to this message please enter the key:

kljfklasjf-jkalfjkladsjf-789273849723-jasfjkldasf-kjlknmcmmcn-mcnkdioadf-eui*(&^ruioeur-123123213-^%^&YUIERR

John, have you tried adding the registry key as above into the acronisdd.inf file, which is in your BartPE folder?

You need to export the serial number out of Windows registry and then add it to the acronis.inf file.

The serial number in registry is encoded, so it won't look like what you actually type in on installation.

Colin, we had already some PMs concerning this topic. For me OSS is (sadly) no choice since it has some bigger problems. The biggest was that it took over my system and I could not deactivate, uninstall or reinstall it anymore. I had to drive to buy a CD I could burn to replace my rescue USB stick (this got deactivated by the OSS). And then the uninstall with the rescue CD was not really perfect to put it like this.

In addition to this OSS in its own configuration cross-linked my system in the sense that boot and system partitions were not the same. With this I could not hide those partitions - what was my intention when I installed OSS. Sure it can be fixed with some work but I was not so confident anymore to continue to use it.

Until now I spent so much time to repair my system I do not want to spend 1 more minute to fix this thing with the key. The programmers have to fix this not me. I might not be the only one with this problem.

For others to understand. When you try to install the OSS from the rescue CD again you have to enter the endless long key even if you installed it in the OS already. This is no fun - believe me. And so the first question was why has it to be so long and the next one why does it not know that it is installed already with this key. DD does and TI can do it but OSS not. By the way - the key I wrote in the message before should just give you an idea - don't waste your time with it.

But Colin thank you that you found this fix for the key and posted it here. Perhaps it might help others.

The OSS needs some work. The idea is not bad and the colorful boot menu is hard to beat. I always think back when I see my simple Windows boot menu now. I am back to DOS when I start my system ;-) But I think with bigger and cheaper harddisks more people will use multi boot systems. Virtual systems are not always an option because of performance and not working things like DX.

Oliver, if you're still monitoring this forum I wonder if you can post some instructions on how you created the plugin? That would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

I'm not sure where I got the plug-in for DD11. But here it is. You need an existing installation to extract the program files an the product key from registry. Don't forget the leading space in the key.
