DD11: How to combine noncontiguous unallocated regions (when partion moving is not an option)?
I would like to combine two or more non-contiguous unallocated regions on a single "Basic MBR" disk using Disk Director 11 Home. However, it appears that the normal DD11 tools are not designed for such a task, at least not under the specific conditions in this instance, but I'm not at all sure of this, which is why I'm asking here.
Along with a these non-contiguous unallocated regions, the disk in question contains non-standard volumes/partitions (DD11 reports them as "Not formatted, Logical, Healthy) that cannot be resized or merged -- but can be safely moved. However, DD11 won't allow these particular partitions to be moved because there isn't enough contiguous unallocated space to hold any of them, although there would be plenty if I could combine the unallocated regions! (yes, there's a hole in that bucket...)
Note that it doesn't help to format the unallocated areas and then use DD11's "Merge Volume" tool, because that can only merge contiguous regions.
The only way I can think of to do what I want is to copy the non-standard partitions separating the unallocated regions to another disk with sufficient room, then delete the original partitions, which would result in all unallocated space now being contiguous, then copy the partitions back to the original disk leaving no space between them. But, can anyone think of a way to do this without having to do it this slow and brute-force way?
Thanks!
