DD12 volume copy - does it copy EVERYTHING?

Thread needs solution

If I make a partition copy (eg c: partition, NTFS) to a new disk as a backup using DD12 volume copy, is this a sector by sector copy or does it just copy sectors with data?

The reason for the question is that a deleted file needs to be recovered for legal reasons. I want to make a backup of the partition first to avoid the situation getting worse (less recoverable). Therefore what I need is a complete image of the disk partition including the same information in any unused sectors so that if necessary it can be passed to a recovery company.

Is this what it does, or not?

Hello Nick,

If you clone your drive - you'll get the exact copy of your drive. If you want to transfer both used and free sectors, select in the cloning method window As is. I'd also suggest checking the part 6.2 Basic disk cloning prior any actions (attached), to make sure the cloning operation will be smooth.

Thank you,
