Default OS selection does not stick

Thread needs solution

I have Windows XP and Windows 7 dual booted. I have Disk Director 11 Home build 2343 installed in the Win7 partition.

When I set the default OS, to Windows 7, it does no stick. Every time I reboot or if I simply open the OS Selector program while I'm booted in Windows 7, 'bootwiz.oss' gets edited (without me doing anything) and makes Windows XP the default.

The following line changes from:
bootmgr disks_order_feature="1" default_os="493038884" admpass="44843"

To:
bootmgr disks_order_feature="1" default_os="2301055871" admpass="44843"

Why is OS Selector automatically changing that line?

How can I fix this?

So, if you set Windows 7 as the default and then reboot to the OSS menu, is Windows 7 still the default or has it switched at that point?

If it is still correct, can you boot into XP and then restart back to the OSS menu with it staying correct?

In other words, can you go into XP or just reboot to the OSS menu several times without it changing the default OS? Is it only when you actually boot into Windows 7 that it changes?

Thanks for helping, MudCrab!

The last time I re-installed, I noticed that Win7 stayed the default until I booted into WinXP. After that, WinXP became the default and everytime I changed it back to Win7, it would revert to WinXP as default after every reboot or just by opening the OS Selector app.

Thanks :)

Is the same version of DD/OSS installed in XP? There can be problems if you're using an old version in XP. It may be setting XP as the default because it thinks the Windows 7 entry is invalid (because the older version doesn't support it). It's generally best to use the same version/build on all systems you install it on.

@MudCrab
DD nor any other boot/partition manager has ever been installed on the WinXP partition.
