Is Disk Director 11 compatible with windows 8.1?
Just looking to see if this program can be used in windows 8.1
Thanks for any info on this.

Hello Robert,
Acronis Disk Director 11 hasn't been updated for a relatively long time and it doesn't support Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 as well.
Please find here the list of supported operating systems.
Thank you.

I didn't hear back so I went ahead and installed it, so far it seems to be working, I do realized that it's not supported on windows 8 or 8.1 so I'll take the risk, but the disk management of win 8 seems to be pretty basic windows as usual, maybe with a slight UI "metro" update you can add win 8 to that list and make it official.
thank you for your help,
RobC

Anna, are you going to update Disk Director 11 Home to support Windows 8.x in the near future?

Hi Dmitry,
currently there is no information about a new version of Acronis Disk Director. I've made some inquires and the only thing I can say for sure is that our development is considering such possibility, but there is no ETA yet.
Thank you.

Hi Anna
Windows 8 was released a year ago. It is about time Acronis states it is going to support Windows 8 or not otherwise I guess we shall all have to assume Disk Director is a discontinued product and go elsewhere. "our development is considering such possibility" is not exactly a response in this scenario sadly.
I'm considering buying True Image right now but I hesitate as I wonder how you will support future operating systems. The reason why am considering buying this product is that Norton Ghost no longer supports Windows 8, but at least Norton told us this was the case rather than leave us hanging around...
Also looking at the number of unanswered forums posts, this really is looking like a "dead" product which is still for sale!
Thanks
Alex

Hello AlexS,
you can rest assured regarding Acronis True Image family, we already added 8.1 support and have many ideas waiting to be implemented!
Thank you.

Thanks Anna much appreciated.
Now your management has got to decide whether you are going to do an update for version 11 or an Acronis Disk Director 12 for Windows 8.1.... or not, so those with version 11 (like I have) can make a decision about our upgrade paths. Or just tell us this is the last version (discontinued). Like I say one year later without an update or any official statement about it's future is unacceptable.
Thanks
Alex

PS the bootloader supplied with it is still seriously bugged, should you decide to do an update your QA needs to look at the many scenarios in the forums and rip it apart testing.
Thankyou...

Hi Alex,
thank you for your feedback!

Most annoying is the fact that they continue to push the product! It's aimed at non-tech-savvy users who are most likely not to grasp the lack of stated Windows 8 support on the box. Most users probably assume the box is merely old-stock and not reflecting reality. They then buy it, open it up, and are screwed when they find out 8 isn't supported.
This is an atrocious way to treat customers Acronis! Customers are not merely walking bank accounts.

Hello Pheckphul,
thank you for your posting!
I forwarded you feedback to our management.
However, personally I cannot agree with you, because Acronis Disk Director 11 is a great tool even if it doesn't support Windows 8 at the moment. There are many users who are using Windows 7 or earlier versions, and Acronis Disk Director 11 can be very useful for them.
Thank you.

I bought pc backup and recovery with a sticker on it that said includes disk director 11 inside. The box lists in the first line Windows 8 all editions.
I wanted to multi-boot my machine so I am stuck apparently with an incompatible product and can't get a boot menu to install.
Does anybody have an suggestions for alternatives?

We are almost in 2014 and Acronis did not publish anything new on Disk Director .
with windows 8.1 and UFEI bios you could test "MiniTool Partition Wizard S.1.1"

Hello Everyone,
currently we are working on the new version of Acronis Disk Director with Windows 8.1 support and it will be released very soon.
Thank you.

Hello Anna,
Are you also plan to update Advanced editions of Disk Director?

Hi Martinez,
at the moment we have information about Home version of Acronis Disk Director only, but I'll forward your wish to management.
Thank you.

Is there any releasedate when reading "very soon"?

Hello Manfred,
thank you for your posting!
The exact release date isn't available yet, but I'll keep you updated.
Thank you.

I tried the "advanced" trial unit and now my old 11 won't re-install on 8.1. When I look at all the products I bought from Acronis (some WERE useful) I will be sure to look elsewhere in future.

By the way, will OS Selector be included in it? Can os selector boot win8 and the previous version of windows?

I have tried Disk Director 11 on a couple of Win 8.1 systems.
On one (a desktop system) where I wanted to install both Win8.1 and Win 7, it worked with no problem at all to create two partitions on an SSD drive to take the two versions of the OS.
On the other (a laptop with a Win 8.1 upgraded from Win 8.0) it installs and runs, shows the drive partitions but lists them all as Unsupported. So, no joy on that one and uninstall and use the Windows utility instead.
No idea why it works on one system but not the other.
honx honx - suggest you check out HyperOS (from HypeOSSystems) if you want to boot various versions of Windows. Clones and live backs-up entire systems as well.

Hello Anna,
I, too, have registered a license of Acronis Disk Director 11. Just to chime in, I found it very useful and would also wish for an updated version compatible with Win8/8.1.
Many thanks

Three years of posts and no progress. No word from Acronis. Obviously they have given up on the product, but as others have said, Acronis should tell its customers this is the case. I "chatted" today with an Acronis customer service person and he had no information about an update to Disk Director 11. All the posts here lead to the easy conclusion that Acronis, as good as this company once was, is no longer a good company. They are still pushing DD11 two years after Windows 8 was released, without clearly stating it does not support Windows 8. Unconscionable. For this reason I refuse to upgrade my True Image product or to purchase anything else from Acronis. Very bad business policy by Acronis. Nothing like shooting themselves in the foot.

I think it was very clear that they DO still support it, considering a few posts back Anna stated they were working on a new version. ( Fri, 2013-12-27 08:09 )

Additionally, if you go to check out with Disk Director 11, it states very plain and clearly: "Acronis Disk Director 11 Home (English)supports Microsoft® Windows® 7, Windows Vista®, and Windows XP. Windows 8 is not supported."
I'm just hoping those of us who purchased DD11 recently will be offered a free upgrade to the new 8.1 windows compatible one. :)

Sadly, it's like whipping a dying horse. Something I simply will never do. There is clearly a need for quality software that would encompass the things that DD-11 once ATTEMPTED to provide (how many years ago now?). It will need to come from a new company somewhere with people dedicated to solving complexities like dynamic drives; USB3; RAID, etc. , all the things that have been making advances in the technology for at least the last three years. It HAS been that long since this company stopped trying to keep up.
I hope that the new technology is not now so complicated that no one knows how to use or fix it!

Nicely stated, John.
1) Over 165 million daily users of Windows 8
2) Windows 8 was released 15 months ago
3) With the dramatic increase in availability of HD audio and video for download, hard disk partitioning or re-partitioning has been very much in need.
I have inquired three times (including yesterday) over the past year about if and when a Windows 8 update will be forthcoming. Each time the customer service rep had no idea. I have been a steady customer of Acronis for many years. I was willing to give them benefit of the doubt at first, but the dismissal of their Disk Director customers who needed a Windows 8 product does not deserve to have apologists in this forum. There are numerous disk partitioning/management products out there which have supported Windows 8 for many months. I did my research and today purchased Paragon Partition Manager 14 Home. Acronis is now in my rear-view mirror. They lost a loyal customer.

!-3 FACK! I hope there is more than one programmer at Acronis and one of them can look at DD and get the ordeer to complete DD working with Windows 8(1)

Passed 3.5 years!!!
Everything Windows was already updated 2 times. All new systems unsupported.
When to wait for a release of the updated Disk Director version with support of new systems? ? ? ? ?
Or development of this program is stopped? ? ? ?

What's the big deal ? They just announced a new version. Plus, most people still have Windows 7. Not to mention, it does work (anecdotally). I installed it into a Windows 8.1 instance and so far have had no problems.
But I'm happy to hear a new version is coming down the pipe.
"Unsupported" doesn't always mean "it doesn't work". I just means they don't know for sure, and won't help if it doesn't for some reason.

Happy it "works" for you but ... the facts are that Acronis clearly states (as many here have found out first hand) that DD11HU2 does NOT support W8.x.
When you say you installed it and it "works" for you, does that mean you used it to partition or repartition a current and typically LARGE Windows 8.x drive (e.g., 1TB) that was partitioned in the GPT format that is the new Windows 8.x standard? If you upgraded an older machine to Win8.x or bought a newer one with a smallish drive, it probably doesn't use GPT. Being able to just install and/or run it, is not the issue. Being able to access, modify, and use all the DD functions on a standard Win8.x GPT drive is a key point I think we are discussing.
As of this writing, 4/17/2014, my copy of DD is the very latest available on the web site (as of this very minute). It is listed in the downloads as "Disk Director 11 Home Update 2, build 2343, released on 11/17/2011". That's about 2.5 years old! I tried that "latest version" on my new Toshiba P55t laptop which has a 1TB HD drive partitioned into several drives using the newer Windows 8.x standard of "GPT" format that eliminates the 2 TB limit on total aggregate partition size of the previous schemes. My laptop is new, running Windows 8.0, and upgraded to Windows 8.1 Pro using a full version. Running DD natively in this Win 8.1 Pro machine shows all partitions and their data correctly but the types for all are listed as "Basic GPT (unsupported)" and thus are shaded as untouchable with no functions allowed.
If that's not bad enough, the "Rescue Media Builder" has not been able to create a usable DD option in over 3 years. If you create a boot disk with True Image + Disk Director, all you see on the Linux boot menu is True Image. Disk Director doesn't appear at all. If you create a boot media with only Disk Director, it gives the same error I've received for 3+ years ... "Cannot find .... " and some truncated cryptic error. I have had the same result on 3 different machines - 2 running W7 Ultimate and the laptop running W8.1 Pro.
The technology required to update DD to GPT is not rocket science. It is simply a different partitioning scheme using the same coding concepts as for the older formats. There is no excuse for not having a current version other than they are having severe corporate issues that make the entire future of their product lines suspect at this point. Most would expect and demand that any product that works so intimately with one's computer's most private, valuable, and sensitive parts would be fully current within a few weeks, let alone years, of a new OS release that is the world standard (whether we like the OS or not).
To be certain I am not just having a nightmare, I just revisited their Product Page again 1 minute ago and the latest DD is still listed as supporting only up through Windows 7.
I was a long time customer but am now just an unhappy one looking elsewhere for an alternative.

Any one have any experience with a company named "databackupworks.com"? Their website lists them a an "Acronis authorized partner."
How about "Acronis Disk Director Advanced"? Acronis sells this (workstation) for 79.95. Any one know if this works with 8.1 and handles GPT partitions??

Hello John,
current versions of Acronis Disk Director don't support Windows 8.x operating systems.
However, very soon we'll release a new version of Acronis Disk Director Home with implemented support of new client operating systems.
Thank you.

It works well for me on Windows 8.1 (2tb hard drive multiple partitions). I use NTFS and Linux partitions. I look forward to the upgrade LONG overdue. I STRONGLY hope that OS Selector is updated as it is BUGGY AS HELL when managing any OS. Just check the forums for examples. It probably need to be rewritten it's just horrible right now.
Thanks :).
