Disk Director vs Migrate Easy vs True Image in cloning old drive
I am trying to decide between the three Acronis products, and leaning towards Disk Director. Most likely any of these will do what I currently want to do, but I have heard issues with cloning from a smaller to a larger drive (e.g, the useable space on the larger drive will be limited by the size of the source drive).
I don't know if Disk Director does what I would actually like to do - possibly someone can tell me if there is any product that does the following:
Take the programs from an old drive and "install" them onto a clean drive with same OS - e.g, with the associated Windows registry entries from source drive.
The reason I want to do this is the old drive has had issues, which might be with the OS, and the Windows Registry definitely has unnecessary entries. I don't know if Disk Director can walk the registry and collect all the registry entries associated with a particular app, but that would be my wish. If not, I would just want to clone the old drive to a new larger drive.
Any thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated. Any warnings about one product vs another?
Thanks,
Michael
