"Disk Read Error" after partitioning harddrive with Disc Director 11
Hi,
I really need your help because right now i can`t boot into windows after using Disc Director 11. I used it to partition my new Intel SSD drive which had two partitions i wanted to merge together as one so i did and after the restart i get this message on bootup:
Disk read error ocurred
Press Ctrl-alt-del to restart
I did and it keeps coming up everytime.
I don`t understand why beacuse there were no errors at all during the partition process so i really need your help because now i`m stuck here and can`t get into windows.
FYI, my computer is a PC with windows 7 64bit ultimate and the harddrive is a Intel SSD.
(I`m writing this message from another computer)

Have you checked the BIOS boot order? Is the SSD set as the booting drive?
Have you done a complete shut down/power down or have you just been rebooting?
Will the computer still boot to the DD CD? What does DD show? Does anything look wrong?
Have you tried booting to the Windows DVD and doing a boot repair?

Thanks for the reply MudCrab,
Yes, i have checked the BIOS boot order and it`s booting from the SSD.
I also did a complete shutdown to see if that would help but still i get the message at bootup.
Not sure what you mean by "boot to the DD CD"? Is this a rescue CD or something? Can you tell more about this CD?
And, yes. I have tried putting the windows installation CD into the drive and tried to repair it from it but still same message after repair..

I take it that the SSD was booting correctly into Windows before you used DD to merge the partitions.
The DD CD can be created using DD or you can download the ISO file from your Acronis account and create a CD from it. Boot to the CD and see if DD sees the Windows 7 installation.
Has the controller mode in the BIOS changed? It may need to be AHCI for the SSD to work correctly. You might just check the setting.
Another possibility is that a certain drive geometry is expected by the BIOS and the merge operation changed it.

Ok, a little update on my problem,
I followed your advice MudCrab and downloaded the DD CD and booted from it and here`s the strange part, it does actually see the C: drive (local drive with my windows OS) and also it says condition is healthy, now if something would have been messed up with the partition i would guess it wouldn`t say that so i guess everything is fine with the partition but there`s something else causing this "Disk Read" error message.
I also tried using the "Recovery Expert" from the DD CD and when i tried to start the recovery process i get this error message:
"E000101F4: Acronis Recovery Expert has detected unsupported hard disk drives, Acronis Recovery Expert does not support Windows Dynamic Discs, EZ-drives, etc"
What does this really mean?
Just by curiosity i tried to boot into a friend of mines computer with a normal Hitachi HDD drive with the same DD CD and i get this same message on his computer too when trying to start the recovery process. I did this mainly to see if it maybe was the SSD drive that somehow was not supported but when i got the same message on his HDD i`m getting real confused here..
Do you know why Recovery Expert gives this error message MudCrab or anyone else?
I havn`t changed the contoller mode in BIOS since i installed the SSD a while back and it should be still in AHCI mode, i will check this and see what is says.

I had this error too with build 216 (DD 11 Home). With build 2121 this was fixed. Since then i had no problems any more.

Really? I assume you mean the "disk read" error and not the other error message i got when trying to run the recovery expert from the DD CD?
Anyway, that`s really interesting and kind of strange that Acronis is not aware of this themselves it appears.
Thanks for the info.

Yes, i had a quite long correspondence with the support about that, and it was confirmed. The error was fixed in build 2121. It has to do with a false alignment of the drive if you install Windows 7 after partitioning the HD with DD 11.216. I attach a screenshot (which i sent to the support during the conversation about this problem).
Update to build 2121 and then it works (hopefully for you too).

Peter,
I assumed you were using the latest build. If not, updating to it may help (possibly with both problems). Build 216 is pretty worthless for a number of reasons.
If the alignment is off, you may need to do a little resizing of the booting partition to correct the booting error.
