Diskdirector 12 shows "foreign dynamic disk" but will not recognize it for clone target

I'm trying to clone my HDD to another identical HDD connected via a USB port.  DD12 shows the HDD connected via USB as a "Foreign Dynamic Disk" with a dynamic MBR and unallocated space.  When I run the clone operation, this disk is not recognized as a possible target for the clone.  What has happened?

Hi,

The cloning operation is only possible with basic disks, so when you try to choose this disk as a destination, it doesn’t allow you (page 48 of the user guide).

So, the first thing you need to do is to convert this disk to basic (page 52 of the same user guide).

You may have an issue with that, since it’s shown as “Foreign”, but fortunately there is an article on Microsoft technet concerning that issue.
