forgot to mention that the HD that I'm trying to clone works fine in my laptop. I'm upgrading to a larger 2.5" HD and for whatever reason I'm getting this error. OS on the HD that I'm trying to clone is Vista 32-bit. OS on my desktop that I'm using to clone with is Windows 7. Another off topic question, is it possible to clone my Win 7 HD onto my new 2.5" HD and run it with my laptop or will that not work with them both being on the same network?

Have you tried doing the cloning from the DD CD?

Have you run chkdsk /f on the partition(s) to check for any file system errors?

If the Windows 7 drive is from another computer it may have problems in the laptop due to drivers being wrong. It may also have Windows activation issues.

ran cmd prompt as admin, scheduled chkdsk/f or restart. Restarted computer but it doesnt look like anything happened, it just booted into windows like normal. Where do the results of the chkdsk end up?

They can usually be found in the Event Viewer.

Did you see the chkdsk screen? It should have been visible for a while since it can take some time for it to run.
