Errors: Corrupted OS drive; Acronis log error

Thread needs solution

First, before getting into the details of the problem I have this to say about Acronis Disk Director 11 Home. I previously used Partition Magic and Partition Commander, both of which never were problematical, but have since become less available. Since I have planned a hardware and OS upgrades, and needed disk management software ASAP I bought the Acronis product at Fry's, because it was the only one they had in stock. I have a Seagate BlackArmor backup drive, which uses Acronis, so I thought the Acronis product would be a solid piece of software. Howevere, as I've been learning, in many products there is a restraint of trade issue that takes otherwise good products off the market. I'm not saying that is the case here. But I am having some angst over the amount of time I cannot afford currently to spend to resolve issues brought about by this Acronis software that never were present in Partition Magic or Partition Commander, from my experience. ______________________

Have you only tried the procedure using DD in XP? If so, try booting to the DD CD and seeing if you get different results.

Yes. I did boot from the DD CD prior to your post. It was by accident, since I forgot to take it out of my drive. However that is when I got a corrupted drive notice in the XP Event Viewer. I suspected that the software in the CD had a bug in it, so I then downloaded the Update, after which I removed the "corrupted drive" problem with "chkdsk/f".

It is not I who needs to seek out a solution for the problem. It is for the programmers working for Acronis that author the DD software that need to fix it, or have customers and potential customers look for competing products. Unfortunately the software industry now appears to operate outside the reach of authorities who would act on behalf of customers who have been cheated by buying bad software products that vendors and the authoring companies refuse to replace with a refund. This is the only industry I know of that is treated with such leniency when selling defective products. I don't know what the current term for software like Disk Director is, but it used to be called "vaporware".

It is not possible to test the software on every system or system/combination. There are always going to be problems. That being said, DD does seem to have more that its share. Please feel free to send a PM to one of the Acronis Forum Moderators and see if they can help in any way. DD is a low priority for Acronis so fixes are very slow in coming.

If you still want me to try and help, please provide some specific details of what you are trying to accomplish.

What procedures are you trying to do?

Do you get the same DD Log error when using the DD CD version and the Windows version?

Have you tried uninstalling DD and reinstalling it?

Is it only one particular drive DD is having problems with? I don't suggest you try making changes on another drive unless you have one around you can use for testing.

If possible, post a screenshot of what DD shows for the drive and one of what Disk Management shows.

There is always the risk of data loss when making partitioning changes (of any type). This is true regardless of the brand/software used and why I recommend creating an Entire Disk Image backup before making changes.
