Failed to Obtain Actual Information about the Disk Subsystem

Thread needs solution

Just installed DD and I immediately get the following message:

"Failed to Obtain actual information about disk subsystem"

Anyone have any ideas?  True Image and other partition management software all work fine.

Hi Prevail,

The problem you are experiencing may be caused by different reasons (hardware related, incompatibility with other Acronis products installed in your system).

In order to understand what is causing the issue I suggest you contact our Support Team: https://kb.acronis.com/content/8153

Before you do that check your disks with the CHKDSK command and collect the system information (please attach it to your support case):

Thank you!

Hello Prevail,

thank you for posting on Acronis forums!

Please download and run the diagnostic utility Acronis Disk Report on your system and share the resulted report.txt here.

The system report could not be generated with DD for the same reason.  see attached screenshot

I even tried generating the report from a linux boot disk, but nothing could be saved since it couldn't access the drive information.  Very Strange.

I found another way to access the log files and found the the configuration file was invalid.  I believe this is an XML file with the DLL configuration?  So I suspect I am missing some necessary DLLs?  (See screenshot)

The DLL install log says they were extracted successfully but exits with a code of "0" ! (See screenshot)

The SnapAPI logs show that all disk and system  information was completely accessible.

However, it dismounted all of my drives at the BIOS level (see screenshot). including my USB ports.

I believe this is what made my computer unbootable.  When it wouldn't boot I tried to boot to USB drive in order to make repairs, but this wouldn't work either.  I'm not very tech savvy and didn't know how to fix things, because there was no way to boot to a recovery USB.  This program is very dangerous.  It took me all night to figure out how to get the computer working again.  When I went to the BIOS  startup menu, Windows Boot Manager was missing!

I restored a backed up image of both the Windows and EFI partitions but it still wouldn't boot.  Finally I had to use acquire and use another software to fix my drive. (easyUEFI)  This was a big headache and DD still doesn't work.

I hope you don't delete this post, but I suspect you will.  Users need to be warned that this program is dangerous.
