Free space not showing after resizing

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I recently resized and moved some free space from my D drive and then added it to the end of my C drive. However, in explorer my C drive still shows as only 110Gb not 126Gb. I was actually trying to free up 8Gb of space but the first time it didn't work so I did it a 2nd time. Now I can see its munched up 2 x 8Gb of space on the end of the C drive that I don't have access to.

I"ve tried doing a CHKDSK (which fixed some stuff but not the problem) and also tried resizing the C drive down but each time I get failure errors.

So now I'm stuck with a drive and no access to the free space. Is there a way to fix this?

Hello Dean,

sorry for the delayed answer!

Please run CHKDSK on both partitions once again with following options:  chkdsk DISK: /f/r (where DISK is the drive letter of the partition you need to check.)

If you previously moved your system from another disk please additionally run chkdsk DISK: /b

After that boot your machine from Acronis bootable media and resize your partitions again (+/- 1 MB will be enough). It should update information about free space.

Thank you.
