Had Disk Directr 10.0.2160 installed, had problems uninstalled + tried to install 10.0.2288 CANNOT on W7 !

Thread needs solution

Hello
I had Acronis Disk Director 10.0.2160 installed AGES ago on Windows 7 64bit with no problems and worked fine until the last 2/3 weeks!

Sometimes it did not load a USB memory stick, which windows would see - usually is the other way around, as it should be!

Then another time I had a 'series of problems with an SD card, partitioning, deleting partitions, formatting. Hard drives ... and so on.

I BET it is to do with the latest Windows updates we did a few weeks back, which have impaired DD !

So, I diligently thought OK I will remove it and install the newer version 10.0.2288 - [I initially thought I was running 10.0.2288, but it was 10.0.2160 version]

When I try to install version 10.0.2288, I get:

The product cannot be installed on the platform. The current OS is not supported.

YOU WHAT?

I can run almost any older program on Windows 7 64bit, but not Acronis Director?

So, what now.

Do I have to spend further money - is that the trick?
Like I did with True Image only to discover I still had the same problem? [but managed in the long run to make it work by myself!]

In the meantime I use a computer with Linux on it and do 'anything' with 'any' drives, while paid programmes do not work or cannot work.

Other computers will be run by Linux soon, as every time now I have a problem I waste hour of my work time and nobody pays for it.

This is ridiculous.

In fact the problem I had with a USB stick I solved it in 3 minutes using Linux!
The only reason I am still using Windows on this particular Laptop, is because I cannot run 3/4 programs I 'still' need or I would not be here wasting my time any-more!

Therefore the SD I did send back was in fact WORKING and did not have bad sectors as your program said!

How one cannot be angry with you?

Another confirmation that problems started since late 2009 versions with both programmes True Image and Disk Director.

I am very tired of you Acronis.

What now?

I cannot install version 2188 on Windows 7 64bit - it does not allow me - shame on you.

From now on I will use Linux - you have just lost a customer for 'at least' Acronis Disk Director

Greetings Pincopallino,

Thank you for taking the time to post on our Forum, we really appreciate your feedback.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused by your product installation. I will be happy to be of assistance.

I regret to say that Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0, regardless of the update build, does not support Windows 7 operating systems, as the product lifecyle of Acronis Disk Director Suite 10.0 ended with the launch of Acronis Disk Director 11 Home. Please see our Knowledge Base article that lists the supported operating systems by Acronis Disk Director 10 and Acronis Disk Director 11 versions.

As a result, we do not recommend Customers attempt to install products that are incompatible with their operating system environment, for not only will it not be possible to perform the installation, but also, the attempt to do so may have a negative impact on the system.

To have devices such as flash memory sticks, external hard drives, and so forth compatible with earlier versions of software in general, the newer device drivers of these devices would need to be identifiable by the program, especially disk management programs that deal with low-level drivers and interact with the file system of a hard disk. As a result, your USB memory stick might have failed to be recognized.

Additionally, as you may be aware, proprietary legacy operating systems, that eventually meet the end of their product lifecyle, eventually come to the end of their product development process thereby, also, bringing a halt to updates provisioned to Customers. This very process applies to software providers as a whole and not specifically to one or another company. I kindly ask for your cooperation therefore, upon taking my above statements into consideration.

I will, however, gladly offer my assistance for any other issue or question you may have, and so, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Thank you.

Hello!

Ah ah ah ah ah,
as expected - I hear' THE END OF THE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT' usual reply!
What, every year?
Are you going insane?
I am expecting more idiocy with W8 coming out!

Acronis is doing exactly as Adobe started to do after they purchased Macromedia, each year come out with a new version which is either not compatible with ONE STEP older operative system or files created with it have problems and so on - let alone version 64bit.

This has become a way of doing business these days [by Larger Companies] and a way to get MORE money out of their customers.
You perfectly know what I am talking about, this is becoming too much and I am not surprised many more are joining Linux or getting back to it like me.

That is what it is.

Also why version 2160 installs perfectly and not version 2288?

As a matter of fact I now do remember, when I installed W7 64bit, the 2288 version did not install and I had to re-install version 2160 and I did not remember because I often used the Linux version in the last year or so most often that Acronis Disk Director 10.

Much easier and faster.

I also now remember that I re-downloaded it thinking it was corrupted and it was not.

So, why is this happening that 'same version 10' but 2160 and 2288 - the last one does not install and the previous does?

PST please, do not get me wrong - I am not one of those people that wants everything for FREE - but there are limits to this and you have gone too far since 2009/10 with True Image too, problems after problems!

It installed because some builds were not set up to be blocked by Windows. However, just because 2160 installs in Windows 7 doesn't mean it's safe to do so. There are many problems with DD 10 in Windows 7. It's not something I recommend at all. Additionally, problems can be worse if there is also a newer version of TI installed (because DD 10 isn't compatible with the later versions of TI and not compatible with Windows 7).

DD is not released yearly and DD 10 is very old in computer years.

Hi
OK, this is a better explanation - thank you.

Anyway, I will use it on a XP Pro sp3 computer then - it should be at home there.

Strange thing, I never had one problem with DD on this Laptop - including W7 64bit, until the other week when I was playing with a SD card partitioning/etc3 resizing etc.

That's when I went to the other PC with Linux and done it in 2 minutes.

Thanks for your help in clearing this up - much clearer now ;p]

I bet version DD 11 will not work well on Windows 8 and DD 12 will come out!

PST by the way, True Image I meant earlier - I did have a series of sporadic but annoying problems with that too since version late 2009 [if I am not wrong] spent twice to renew it and did not change anything - but then I found my way of workaround problem - something I should not do ! - I only purchased DD once in Sept 2008

Just tried to install DD12 on my Win7 pro machine. The alerts said that it had installed successfully but it is nowhere to be found??? Unfortunately my standard support apparently ran out yesterday so i would have to pay £20 to talk to someone about a first installation problem!!! sounds a bit rich!!! Surely the support should be from the first use of the program?
Any ideas? Thanks in advance M

Hallo,

'Danke.
