Help! Disk Director Server - Hung at Synchonizing with operating system

Thread needs solution

I purchase Disk Director as a recommendation to help handle increasing the partition size of my c (operating system) drive on a Dell PowerEdge 2500 server. I have verified this is running Perc3/Di controller, not the S300 that has been documented NOT to work with Acronis. This is running Windows 2000 SP4, Citrix Metaframe XP. This is the production and essentially the desktop for all my users.

I installed this morning and decided to do my actions step by step. I did a complete install adn then removed the D partition which was already empty as it was just set as a fail over drive. Then I will resize C to include this space. To remove the partition, the server needed to be rebooted, so I did that.

Now, it's stuck on this: (the windws 2000 server bar is still moving)

Acronis Disk Director Server
Synchronizing with Operating System:

[########################] 100%
Rebooting. . .

It's just sitting there, twice now the screen changes to black for a split second. Thoughts????? Is this normal, I don't see this in the documentation. If so, how long does this generally take? The partition was just over 8 GB.

Smiley:

That's not normal; it should only take a few seconds.

Go ahead and reset the server. If Disk Director was unable to communicate with the disk while in the Windows Preboot environment, chances are that the operation didn't do anything and you should be back where you started.

If that's the case, do the operation from the boot CD while Windows 2000 is shut down.

Thanks, I'll wait a bit longer and then hit the power button. I am chatting with support and he's telling me this is normal, but cannot give me a general time frame other than it depends on my system and system performance.

The possibility of corrupting files and creating bad sectors as well as possibly damage Windows files are what he says will happen if I hit the power button.

But, for a total phyiscal disk of about 16GB, and the C partition holding the OS is around 8 (which I didn't do anything with) and D which is the failover that was emptied manually of around 8GB as well, to me shouldn't take more than 20-30 minutes tops. It's not that big.

I'll update on what I do to help others as I didn't find much in searching this error with a server.

Well, finally, waited, and then crossed my fingers, hit the power button.

Came backup to Acronis Disk Server screen, but said Completed. Then, booted to Windows...

It took care of the partition and then I was able to increase the size of the C partition.

Guessing the issue is with my server, been an off and on boot issue where it boots fine from the power button, but doesn't like to reboot.

Thanks for your help.
