Help!! Lost Data!!

Thread needs solution

Okay, I'm a bonehead I guess but I moved all important data to a new partition i created with acronis, then installed windows 7 over the existing partition (C). I attempted to merge the new one back to c with the data moving to an empty desktop folder which i created. The computer went into sleep mode during the merge!!! No data to be found... on either side. BUT, the properties of the C drive shows the right amount of disk space used as if the files were there but invisible. Can anyone PLEASEE help me PLEASE??? Some really important stuff is in there somewhere.

In my opinion, the Merge and Split functions of DD should never be used. They're too destructive if something goes wrong.

Does the new C: partition show the correct size (the total of the Merged partitions)?

Have you run a chkdsk on the C: drive to check for errors? Because of the problem, I think I would run it in read-only mode and see what it comes up with (don't specify either the /f or /r options).

Is it possible for you to create a sector-by-sector image backup of the drive so you have EVERYTHING in case it's needed.
