How do i dual boot two xp with acronis software

Thread needs solution

hello

how do i dual boot xp on my laptop using acronis software. I have Acronis Disk Director
Suite, Acronis OS Selector and Acronis true image. I have already made my 2 partitions, G and C, both are identical with the same copy of XP.

In OS Selector i have Two operating Systems, XP 1 and XP 2. When i boot in to ether of them i always go to Drive C.

what am i doing wrong? and how do i boot in to G?

thanks

Rob

The problem is that the Disk Signature is saved in the registry. When you boot the copied partition, C: is still being assigned to the "original" C: partition.

Boot into the original C: XP and then correct the registry for the G: XP.

  1. Start regedit.
  2. Click on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key to select it.
  3. Click on the File menu and select Load Hive...
  4. Browse to the G:\Windows\System32\config folder.
  5. Select the system file and click the Open button.
  6. A box will come up asking for the Key Name.
  7. Type in MyXP_G and click the Ok button.
  8. You should now see the MyXP_G entry added to your local registry under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key.
  9. Under MyXP_G, browse to the MountedDevices entry.
  10. Delete the \DosDevices\C: entry. To delete an entry, right-click on it and select Delete from the pop-up menu.
  11. Rename the \DosDevices\G: entry to \DosDevices\C: to correct the letter assignment. To rename an entry, right-click on it and select Rename from the pop-up menu. Note: If the "G:" entry doesn't exist, it's okay to skip this step. C: will automatically be assigned to the Active partition by Windows.
  12. Unload the Hive by clicking on MyXP_G to highlight it, selecting the File menu and then selecting Unload Hive.... Finally, click Yes and then close the registry editor.

Before booting into the revised G: XP, check the properties of the OSS menu entry for it and make sure that the correct partition (the "G:" partition) is set as the Active partition.
