How to erase HD to meet DOD standards

Thread needs solution

How do I erase an entire Hard Drive so that it meets DOD standards? I do not seem to find anything other than editing the disk and writing all 0's. Does this package have a true secure deletion?

Thanks!

If you have a newer version of TI you can use the DriveCleanser feature to wipe partitions and/or drives. DD 11 doesn't offer much in the way of wiping (DD 10 would let you do a zero-wipe).

Thank you MudCrab!

I have TIH 2012. I let the DiskCleanser run overnight.

I am donating the computer. The HD that was cleansed was "Disk 2" to Disk Management. It doesn't show up anymore, even with Disk Director 11. I didn't expect Windows to see it as it wasn't formated, but I expected to see it with DD11. Will the disk be able to be used to apply an OS now that it has been cleansed?

It should be. It might need to be redetected or otherwise reinitialized. Does the TI "Add Disk" wizard see it?

Thanks, I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

After the cleansing completed, I shutdown and powered off. I removed the cleansed HD, added another one to be cleansed and tried to reboot. The boot failed with an error of no boot device found. The BIOS did go ahead and list the HDs, and the boot disk (with 2 partitions), and the second HD to be cleansed were listed on SATA 1 and SATA 2. I powered off and removed the second HD and thankfully was able to boot just fine.

Any idea what is going on?

The boot order probably changed. When the drives connected change, the BIOS may reorder the list, often times selecting a non-booting drive to boot. Always check after making drive changes (or use the BIOS boot menu while changes are in progress and then check/set when finished).
