How to speed-up start-up

Thread needs solution

Experiencing slow start-up; want to use OSS and avoid slow start-ups.

How can I be sure OSS is not using CD driver? How can I specify the driver that OSS looks for at start-up and where it looks?

Considering replacing 5400rpm SATA with with Intel X25-M Mainstream 160GB SATA Solid State Drive? How important a factor might this be in acheiving fast start-up?

When you boot into OSS, there is an option in the settings to disable the CD-ROM drivers. As far as I know, that's the only control you have. You can't specify different drivers.

Usually, when OSS is very slow on starting up, it's because of the chipset or settings and not because of a particular drive. However, it may still make a difference. It really depends on what's causing the delay.
