Installation issues

Thread needs solution

I am running Win 7 x64. I am able to install Disk Director 11 build 2121 without any issues. If I try to update to the latest version I get "E00640003: The error was encountered wile the installation." I have uninstalled version 11-2121 and tried to install the update and I get the same error. I used the Acronis CLeanup Utility and, after a reboot, I get the same error. I have also run msconfig and done a Diagnostic Restart and it still won't install. I purchased Disk Director 12 hoping that would fix the problem, but it doesn't. I get an "Installation was interrupted" message. I am out the upgrade cost and still no functioning, current version of Disk Director. HELP!!!

Try running the DD11 installer again and see if it still offers an uninstall option. If it does select this to uninstall DD11, if not try reinstalling DD11 and then use the DD11 installer to uninstall DD11.

If you have TI 2014 installed the post currently above yours has another solution whereby uninstalling TI2014 first allows DD12 to install and then reinstall TI 2014.

I uninstalled True Image Home Premium, ran the Acronis Cleanup Utility, rebooted, tried running the DD12 installer as Administrator and I still get the Installation was interrupted error.

I meant reinstall DD11 and use that to see if you can uninstall all of the previous DD11 files.

DD 11 won't reinstall. "Installation was interrupted" I have a case open with Acronis, so far they haven't been able to fix anything either.

There may be a workaround - instead of installing for all users, install just for your log on. The registry entries go in different places according to this selection.

Make sure your firewall isn't preventing the uninstall or install.

There is also a CLSID folder which contains the install info, I'll have to see If I can recall what its number is.

The installation doesn't get to that point. I get the setup menu, I select install, it goes to copying files, and then pops up the screen with "The Installation has been interrupted before Acronis Disk Director Home 11 could be installed."

Some other things to try.

1. Run the DD12 installer and when the install menu pops up, right click on 'install' and select 'extract'. Note where the MSI installer file is saved to.

2. Try installing by just running the MSI installer instead of the Acronis wrapper program - this may work.

3. If it doesn't, you may need to run the installer file via a batch file which will create an MSI installer log, which may show the registry entry where your install is failing.

4. Open up Windows registry and search for the following key under
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Installer\UpgradeCodes and HKLM\software\Classes\Installer\Features and Products

D28D4217-7ED7-1D74-66CA-8A97E9029124

and delete it.

Look also under Products for 858273EA-DB1B-FE94-3880-463822480680 this is the DD12 installation folder in registry.

Obviously it would be a good idea to have a complete disk image available should you make an error, and the system misbehaves when rebooted.

The msi did the same thing, installation interrupted..., I checked the registry and couldn't find those keys. Colin, I really appreciate all your help! Thank you!!

It amazes me that Acronis almost always releases buggy new versions of their programs.
This new Disk Director 12 is buggy and caused me a lot of trouble and hell and I do not recommend for anybody to install it on their PC.
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit fully updated and it runs flawlessly.
After installing this horrible and buggy program it requested me to restart and of course I restarted.
After the restart my PC booted to the BSOD screen and nothing would fix it until I restored the system to the prior setting with my Windows DVD.
Users do not need to go through this type of HELL and shame on Acronis to release this kind of crappy software.
Sorry for my foul language but Acronis MUST stop releasing buggy software and not let us users be their guinea pigs.
Shame on Acronis.
I hope Acronis will read my comment here and fix their horrible and abysmal new Disk Director 12 (Build 3223) ASAP.

The msi did the same thing, installation interrupted.>

John,

I'm attaching a batch file that will log the install and hopefully show where the install fails. Save this file into the same folder that has the MSI file. Remove the _.txt suffix, that is only there to allow uploading as an attachment.

You will need to edit this batch file and change the MSI file name to that of DD12. As I have written it, the file assumes an install in to your C:\Acronis folder.

If you understand batch files, you can alter the folder and the name of the log file.

Check the resulting batch file and remove any serial numbers that may be embedded and email address, then post it here. If you look at the bottom of the file you will see a "3" number this is the failure point, you then have to work from the bottom of the file upwards to see exactly what process was occurring when the failure happened.

The log file it a standard text file just has an LOG extension.

More information is required to see where your install may have failed.

Did you have DD11 or previous installed on your system prior to the DD12 install?

Did you uninstall the previous version of DD before installing DD12?

Do you have other Acronis products installed on or previously installed on your PC?

Do you have a secure zone set up if True Image is installed?

Did it actually install without any problems and it was after the first reboot that the problem occurred?

Do you by any chance recall what the BSOD text said aqnd whether the hex number started with 0x7B

What brand and model is your PC/Laptop?

Yes DD11 was installed. I uninstalled it, rebooted, ran the cleanup utility, rebooted, attempted to install DD12

I have True Image Home Premium 2014 installed. I tried uninstalling it, rebooting and installing DD12 with no success. I reinstalled TIHP 2014 without a problem.

No Secure Zone

DD12 has never installed successfully. Now DD11 won't install either. I get the same error "Installation was interrupted" with both versions.

There has been no BSOD.

I have a home built AMD 8350, Gigabyte GA-FXA990-UD3, 16 GB G-Skill Ripjaw, Sandisk SSD system drive and WD Black Data drives. I am running Win 7 Pro x64, fully updated.

Hello Everyone!

Colin, thank you very much for helping!

John S., unfortunately, without an installation log it will be hard to get any further.

You can do the same thing as suggested by Colin using the command line tool:

1) Put AcronisDiskDirector.msi in C:\Acronis folder

2) start cmd.exe as administrator

3) execute the following command:

msiexec.exe /i C:\Acronis\AcronisDiskDirector.msi /l*v C:\Acronis\AcronisDiskDirector.msi.log

(!) The /i and /l*v parameters are separated with spaces from msiexec and msi-filepath

After execution of this command there should be the installation log \AcronisDiskDirector.msi.log in C:\Acronis\ folder.

Please let me know when installation log is created.

Thank you in advance!

John From Colorado, can you please provide information requested by Colin and contact our support so that we can investigate an issue you've faced?

Anna, In addition to my posts here on the forum I have opened a support incident with Acronis. I have ftped several files and screen shots to support. One thing I didn't send was an installation log generated per your instructions. I will generate one and upload it to both. Thank you everyone for all of your help!

John S., forgot to add. Today we released build 3223, it is available under your account. Please download it and run the above routine using the latest build.

Thanks and will let you know here of my result.

Result Update:
I downloaded the new build 3223. I uninstalled all Acronis software, rebooted, ran Acronis Cleaner, rebooted, installed new build 3223.
It seemed that it installed properly, I am able to run it.
Issue now is I cannot run the newly created boot media from flash drive. It boots, but hangs after seeing "Loading" then it is just black screen.
Tried booting again from this flash drive, and when it boots for program selection, I click on F11 and I tried this command as I used to do in the good old days as I have nothing to lose:
quiet acpi=off noapic
unfortunately this still does not work.
I welcome any new tricks. I am using an SSD with AHCI configuration. Do I need any special drivers?
I have resigned to the fact that I have to be patient and wait till a newer version, hopefully one that is really fixed, will be released soon.
Thank you

John, I have the same problem with DD12 build 3223 hanging after screen says, "Loading..." Build 3223 was suppose to fix the problem but it didn't.

Acronis MUST get their act together and should not release a new DD 12 until ALL bugs are really fixed.
These bugs are a complete waste of time and its really very aggravating.

I haven't downloaded the new build as yet - it was supposed to fix some problem with actually making the media. Have you tried downloading the ISO version of the recovery environment and see if this runs?

In theory they should be the same with current versions, but there is a possiblity they have used a different sub build to make the ISO file.

Colin,

I just burned a DVD with ADD12_3223_en-US.iso. Then booted my computer to it. It still fails as described before. Hangs on “Loading, please wait…” then screen goes black forever.

However, DD12 for Windows 8 seems to work fine though. I made a 2x 4TB mirrored drive with DD12 this evening and it handled it no problem. I just want a bootable version too.

Hello Everyone!

Let's leave this thread for installation issue faced by John Scudder

John S., thank you for installation log! I've sent you a solution suggestion in a PM. Note for everybody: Issue seems to be caused by upgrade codes and should be solved by following this guide.

David, I answered you in this thread.

John From Colorado, please send me a PM with your serial number (I wasn't able to find it in our database). I'll create a separate support case for you.

It would be also helpful if you can check if any of this steps helps:

- putting flash drive into another port;

- using another flash drive

- writing media on a CD.

The thing is, that similar issues are relatively often caused by write errors while creating a bootable media.

Thank you.

I have to decided to be kind to myself and avoid all these unnecessary headaches, aggravation and a lot of waste of time.
I have given up on the new horrible. poorly written DD 12. It is really just not ready to be released as it has many bugs. It is not fair for Acronis to induce so much pain and suffering on us, poor users, when Acronis releases not fully tested and buggy software.
I will be patient and wait till a new and properly written version of DD 12 is released.
So far as of today (June 4) even the latest build 3223 is a piece of crap.
Until then I avoid all these turmoil by throwing my present DD12 in the garbage,
Shame on Acronis.

Hello John From Colorado,

do I understand correctly that all of the above didn't help?

If you change your mind and decide to investigate the issue, please send me your serial number so that I can create a support case for you.

Thank you.

There are much better partitioning software than Disk Director, and this new version 12 obviously lacks quality, just read on how many users are having major trouble with this BAD new version.
Here is an excellent, helpful and informative review on the 10 top-rated partitioning software:
http://partition-manager-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
and Acronis DD version 11 (the previous version) came at #6. I am quite sure that this new version DD 12 if it was tested would not have even made this list due to its many bad issues.
I tested the two top-rated software, Paragon and Easeus, and I made the emergency boot disks on each and both were just fantastic, no issues or drama, unlike DD 12 which is plagued with many problems.
So if you want good working programs without any drama or issues then try Paragon or Easeus.
These two programs are superior to the horrible and troublesome new Disk Director 12.
My strongest recommendation and advice to everybody is just to forget about this horrible, abysmal and troublesome Disk Director 12 and to use the above recommended good, working and trouble free software, like Paragon and Easeus.
To summarize my expert opinion and exactly what I think of this new Disk Director 12 ...... it is a piece of CRAP.

I am also having problems with Disk Director 12 since upgrading from Disk Director 11.

I have found that I am unable to run Try & Decide from True Image 2014. Both applications are installed on my Laptop under Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate Edition.

I have tried uninstalling TI2014 and DD12 then reinstalling DD11 and TI2014 but still get the error message "Failed to Start Try&Decide". I then uninstalled DD11 but could still not use Try & Decide.

Fortunately prior to installing DD12 I made a complete system backup of my Samsung machine with Samsung's own Recovery Solution backup software.
I completely restored my machine and found that DD11 & TI2014 once again worked perfectly and I was able to use Try & Decide without a problem

Out of curiosity I once again installed DD12 and yet again Try & Decide failed to start. I gave up on DD12 and re-restored my machine with Samsung Recovery.

I have been using Acronis products since before 2010 and have never had any conflicting issues between previous builds of True Image and Disk director.

To sum up, the Disk Director 12 upgrade seems a complete waste of money

After working with Acronis tech support it was finally determined the problem resided in the registry in the form of an "upgrade key." I had run the Acronis Cleanup Utility and done a linux-based registry sweep to remove all references to Acronis and it still wouldn't install. I wasn't until I applied a registry patch that Acronis tech support sent me that I was able to successfully install DD12. I would post the patch, but I am not sure it is universal. I would hate to have someone's problems compounded by applying an inappropriate patch. I would like to add a special "thank you" to Anna Trifonova for being attentive and helpful.

Hello Everyone!

Waterboy, I answered you in this thread.

John, I'm happy that we were able to help you! Please don't publish a script that you received. It was based on your installation log and cannot be used on other systems. Thank you for your prudence!

Best regards

At least someone got it working.

After 3 hours of trying to install DD12 I give up and I need help.
I'll attach my log file.
