larger than 2.2 TB hard drives and compatibility with Acronis products

Thread needs solution

I have a 3 TB hard drive. Hard drives with more than about 2.2 TB size run into some complications. This has to do with the older MBR partition system only allowing for up to 2.2 TB.

I currently have these Acronis products:

Acronis Disk Director 11 Home Upgrade
Acronis True Image 2014 Premium Family Pack

The Acronis Disk Director 11 Home Upgrade will not even read my 3 TB Seagate drive. The Acronis True Image 2014 Premium Family Pack surprisingly does read the 3 TB Seagate drive and can convert the partition system from MBR to GPT (where it erases everything on the drive) and even create one partition.

The questions are:

• does Acronis Disk Director 12 have the ability to manage 3 TB hard drives (Director 11 doesn’t seem to be able to)
• does Acronis True Image, which can read 3 TB drives, have more features for over-2.2 TB drive partition management

The good thing is that once a 3 TB hard drive is converted to the GPT partition system, Windows Partition Manager can then successfully manage partitions on it, which isn’t the case when the drive is MBR.

I have a similar question. My system includes 6 hard drives, 1 internal and 5 external. One of the external drives is a 3TB Seagate. Neither Acronis True Image 2014 nor Acronis Disk Director 12 seems to be able to "see" this drive, as it never shows up in the list of drives displayed when I launch the programs.

Is this a permanent restriction on the programs, or will it be changed in future versions? (Has it already been changed in Acronis True Image 2015?)
