Logical to primary only made it half way, now partition is unusable
I tried to convert a partition from logical to primary, but the procedure stopped half way. If step 1 was "discover hardware", it accomplished that, but just sat there trying to make the change. Finally after 20 minutes, where "cancel" was ignored, I gave up and rebooted. Now that partition is unreadable. CHKDSK says "unable to determine volume and state". I can't use Acronis Recover Expert on it, because that only runs on deleted volumes.
Where do I go from here? Thanks.
PS I'm running under Windows 8 Pro if that makes a difference...

You could try deleting the partition (don't wipe it) and then seeing if the old Logical partition could be undeleted. Otherwise, you could try is using data recovery software on the drive/partition. It's possible that the system was frozen, but, in general, rebooting during an operation would very likely render the partition(s) corrupt. Also, DD 11 does not support Windows 8 so it's possible it ran into some problems there too.
It's recommended to create a backup of the entire drive before making partitioning changes. There is always a risk of data loss regardless of the software used to make the changes.
