Marked as active

Thread needs solution

I just wanted to copy a data partition into a new bigger HD bt the resulting partition is now marked as active and i dont know why or how to unmark it. The problem is that it is a remote server and I thing it now asking for F1 (or something like that) when rebooting, which is very problematic. Actually I required human assistance when copying the partition because the server wouldn't come back up and it was because it was asking for F1 to proceeded with partition copy. Its not useful if you are remote.

Also, the new drive is now drive0 instead of drive2 as before.

Any way of getting as it was, just one active partition (c:) and no prompts on startup?

thank you.

Most likely, the problem isn't that the partition is marked Active, but that the drive order changed in the BIOS. That's not uncommon when you add a new drive (at least on a standard PC). The original drive may just need to be reset as the booting drive in the BIOS order list.

Whenever there is one or more Primary partitions on a drive, one of them is usually set as Active. It's completely normal and usually doesn't cause any problems.

Assuming DDS works the same as DD, you should be able to remove the Active flag by using the Disk Editor.

  1. Have DD in Manual Mode.
  2. Right-click on the "Disk #" title (not on a partition). For example: Disk 1
  3. Select Advanced >> Edit from the pop-up menu.
  4. Select View >> As partition table from the menu.
  5. Uncheck the Boot checkbox for the Active partition.
  6. Click the Save sector button, use Edit >> Save sector from the menu, or press Ctrl-S to save the change.
  7. Exit DD and reboot.

Before i had a chance to do what you advised me, the server hanged up again, so i remotely rebooted it (power strip) but it seem that Disk Director its asking for f1 or so again. So now i don't have my server online again and have to wait til monday when data center operator can help me striking the f1 key.

I cannot undertand how a bucnh of smart people decided to put a promt at te begining of a restart sequence. At least put a timer for default or something. Otherwise is plain dumb.
