MBR to GPT

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I booted from the rescue media (ISO) to convert the OS disk (Windows 10) from MBR to GPT.

When I right-click on the disk, there is no option "MBR to GPT" option...

Hello Duparchy,

thank you for your posting! Did you check the limitations below?

Important: If you have a primary volume, belonging to an MBR disk, and convert the disk first to GPT and then back to MBR, the volume will be logical and will not be able to be used as a boot volume. You can convert this volume to primary, as described in Converting a logical volume to primary (p. 35).

Important: The basic MBR disk that contains the boot volume with the currently running operating system cannot be converted to GPT.

If no limitation applies to your case, please attach a screenshot illustration the issue, so that we can see the disk layout and partition properties.

Also check out the topic https://forum.acronis.com/comment/411118#comment-411118 that offers some further advise on how to convert MBR to GPT.

Hi, I read that.

That's why I booted from the rescue media ISO ;

The boot volume "with the currently running operating system" is the rescue media, not the disk to be converted.

I can't add a png file but got an error  "The file could not be uploaded"

Size : 92K.

I tried using "imce File Manager". seems to be there for "user128054"

I responded, but my response has been lost apparently

Anyway, Yes I checked the limitation, that's why I decided to boot from the rescue media. the "currently running operating system"is the ISO, not the disk.

So, is that MBR-To-GPT feature real ?

Hello Duparchy,

another limitation is - conversion of Dynamic disks is not supported. In other cases, the issue might be related to issues with the drive in question or to Acronis product. If there are no issues found with the drive, please open a support ticket with Acronis support for investigation.
