Moving system partition and NT signature

Thread needs solution

Hello all,

I need suggestions/ideas on how to get my result.

I have a disk that is divided in many partition, one of them is the bootable system partition, others are data partitions.
Now I want to move the bootable system partition on a different disk, making it bootable and preserving the signature to avoid windows reactivation.
I want to avoid Windows reactivation because I don't know if the code is still "reactivable". The code belongs to a partner subscription that is expired, and the newer versions do not include anymore the Windows 7 ultimate. (no piracy, my copy is legal, but I don't know if reactivation is possible after so many years).

I own my Disk Director in version 11, but as I can see the 12 does not solve my problems.

Thus, I was thinking to clone my old disk to the new, but I cannot do it because the new disk will have to contain only one partition of the original one, and it will be smaller.

As far as I know the clone mode of DD is available only in two options.
- As is, not suitable for me, as the disk will be smaller
- Proportional, not suitable for me as far will be impossible to "manage" the proportions and exclude one volume, for instance.

So, cloning will be not suitable.

I could manually:
- copy the system volume on the new disk
- make the new disk bootable
- copy the NT signature from the original disk.

And the last step I don't know if it's feasable using DD and options other than the "clone" one.

Any help, suggestion, idea, experience to get the result will be really welcome.

Angelo

Hi Angelo,
as far as I know it is not possible to copy NT signature separately with Acronis Disk Director.
In any case it makes sense to contact Microsoft support and to clarify licensing questions.
Thank you,
