Multiboot works - Thanks to @MUDCRAB
Hi,
I am a German User and have had many Problems to configure a Multiboot system via ACRONIS OSSelector.
The issue was that it is impossible to setup a Dualboot or Multiboot System with DVD like describe in User manual. Proberties that I changed in OS Selector Home Window from the (new)DVD OS does not have any effects and will be ignore ! ACRONIS OS Selector have Problems to setup Proberties from the new OS via Reboot.
The Result was that Vista puts his bootmgr in Win7 and destroeyed all...Now I find a topic from MUDGRAB how to install XP after WIN7and that works for me.
What I have done:
-first I made a new Partition for the second OS
-then I deaktivate OS Selector and set WIN 7 as Startsystem
-after Reboot i boot direktly in DD and set WIN7 Partition as hidden and the new Partition for XP aktive
-then I reboot a second Time and boot direktly in XP Install DVD
-after Install of XP I reboot direktly in DD and OS Selector and aktivate it
-OS Selector find the new OS and all works
Then I boot in Win7 where ACRONIS OS Selector is installed and set in Proberties for the correspondive OS the other OS Partition as hidden.
This Scenario I have done for Vista too - so that I have now a Multiboot System with 5 OS Systems ( Win7x32, WIN7x64, Vistax32, Vistax64 and XP )
Al least a Question to @MudCrab:
What do you think about install of Tuneup Utlilities 2011 in my Multibootsystem ? In the Past I used this Software with good Results...
Please excuse my bad English
Best Regards
Harald

Hi Mudcrab,
Many Thanks for your fast reply. I will not install this Tuneup Software because its to much risk for me.
Ok, but what do you think about an old SUSE 9.1 OS ? Several Disks of it are waiting for install...
Can I install it like describe in my first Posting ? What about the hidden and aktive Partitions - is this like a Windows Install ?
Best Regards

Linux is different than Windows. You can configure which partitions are mounted by Linux when installing or at a later time. It's usually not necessary to go to the trouble to hide them.
I recommend keeping GRUB in the Linux partition. This usually requires do a custom install or selecting a special option during installation. Some distros hide it more than others.
Linux does not require being installed to a Primary partition (Logicals work just as well), though some distros behave differently when installing GRUB. If you have the space for the booting Linux partition to be Primary it may make it simpler.

Hi,
Today a think i make a big mistake:
I delet one of my OS in Os Selector because I want a second Win 7. Then - with your Methode like describe in my first Post - I reboot into DD and hide the other OS on the hdd (with have 4 Partitions with 4 OS) and set the Partition for the new Win 7 as aktive.
BUT I DONT HIDE SYSTEMRESERVERVED from installed Win 7.
During Win 7 Setup with DVD I select formation to the aktive Partition. After Installing Win7 I reaktivated OS Selector and all works fine.
My Question : Now I dont have a second systemreserverved Partition an this hdd. And after Installing ATI and Backup this new Version there is no systemreserverved Partition in ATI, too.
Should I reinstall this WIN 7 ?
Best Regards

Harald,
You could post the BOOTWIZ.OSS file and I could take a look at it, if you want. However, I think it should be okay. Windows should have placed the booting files into the Active partition. In this case, the Windows partition. You can check this by looking in Disk Management and seeing if the Windows partition is shown as System, Active, Boot. A lot of people prefer installing Windows 7 this way since it doesn't waste a Primary partition.

Hi Mudcrab,
Now, several Years later without any Problem to my Multiboot System i will add Ubuntu and Kubuntu to a additional HDD. I have Nine OS installed on 4 Hdds. Then it will be 12 Systems on 5 HDDs.
Im not shure about the Procedur to install Ubuntu /Kubuntu / Suse 9.1 prof without any Problems to my existing Systems.
Should I disconnect the 4 HDDS before install the Linux Systems ? What I want to do:
- first I go to DD OSS and deaktivate it
- then I set Win7 on my first HDD ( where the OSS is installed) as default
- I disconnect all HDDs and connect the new HDD instead of HDD1 in Sata slot
- During Linux install i set Grub to install into Linux Folder for each Linux install (Ubuntu/Kubuntu etc. )
- when its done I connect all HDDs at its old Place and connect Linux HDD in SATA 5
- then I reboot directly to DD OSS and aktivate it
- done
Am I right to do so ?
Best Regards
Harald
