Need Windows 7 and XP to ignore each other

Thread needs solution

I've used ADD10 to partition my 200Gb drive into separate XP and Windows7 partitions, and the installation of Win7 resulted in a very nice "older?" or "Win7?" selection screen on boot. But System Restore doesn't seem to like that one partition can see the other--I think that XP's System Restore blew-out my Win7 restore points, for example.

So is there a way (I have ADD10) to hide W7 when I boot from XP, and XP when I boot from 7, keeping Windows boot mgr? Or do I need to install Acronis OS Selector for this?

Hello tomf,

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

I may suggest you to have a look at this guide to find out how to have Windows 7 and Windows XP on the same hard drive.

Unfortunately, Acronis Disk Director doesn't support Windows 7 yet, so most likely Acronis OS Selector will not work with Windows 7 correctly.

Thank you.

Ilya, your suggestion misses the point of my post, which is that booting into XP deletes Windows 7 Restore points. A partial solution is here:

While I had successfully used ADD10 to make two Primary partitions on my Drive 0, and installed Windows 7 to the 2nd partition, upon booting XP my W7 restore points were lost. With the MS registry mod, this was fixed.

The easiest way I've learned to fix this problem is via EasyBCD and Vista HnS (HidenSeek) freeware from neosmart.net. These tools easily change boot records and hide partitions if needed.
