Operation Resize the volume on WD External HDD 2 TB FAILED !!!

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone,

I have WD My Book External hard drive of 2 TB data on one partition NTFS.

There is 360 GB data on it.

I decided to re-size the volume from Acronis Bootable CD in graphical mode.

1. Selected the external HDD from the list of available HDDs.

2. Re-sized to another size.

3. Executed operations.

The process took about 1 hour 30 minutes and had never finished at all.

After the restart there is "The file system is unrecognized or damaged" message occurs while you accessing the drive.

--- Is any way to finish the operation or recover the data on it?

Best Regards,

Hello xUser xUser!

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here! I understand your concern, and will do my best to help you.

Unfortunately there is nothing we can do unless you have the backup of that drive and you're able to restore it.

The issue occurred due to the errors with the file system (or bad blocks on the drive itself). That's the main reason why Acronis Disk Director get stuck during the resize process and why you receive this error. I'm terribly sorry for you've faced this inconvenience.

In future in order to avoid this problem, we advise to do the following before the resize process:

  1. Go to Start -> Run -> cmd
  2. Issue there the following command:
    chkdsk /f /r
  3. Reboot the machine

On booting it will check and cure all the file system errors and issues on the drive, which will make the resize process safe and stable.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!
