os detection wizard and windows xp pro 32
I added a new disk that has xp pro on it. is the a way I can have the os detection wizard find it? Does it need to look in a particular file on the disk?

Its dd10 ver: 2288. It is a hard drive that I used to have on this computer. Later I removed the hard drive and replaced it with a new one and installed xp home, as I lost my xp pro diskette. later I installed my acronis programs, dd and ti. Now I installed the hard drive with xp pro as disk 2, but OS does not recognize the xp pro on that disk. I would rather try and get it to recognize it than reinstall xp pro on the second disk. Thank you for your help.

Does the second drive (the one with XP Pro) boot properly if you select it in the BIOS? There may be something broken with the booting on the drive and that's why OSS won't detect it.
If it doesn't boot properly, you may want to disconnect the first drive (XP Home) and configure the second drive as the default booting drive before trying any boot repair procedures.
If you try booting the second drive and get an error, post it if you're unclear what it means or how to fix it.

If I make it the 1st boot device I get a no NTLDR message. If I look with explorer at the root directory there are no files just folders to look at, do you know if that is normal? I'm not that familiar with xp pro. With xp home the root directory has files like boot.ini, ntldr ect.

XP Pro has the same files. On some systems the files are hidden. You could enable viewing of hidden and system files and see if they show up.
Otherwise, they're probably not on the drive. Was this drive booting by itself when it was previously used on the computer? If not, it's possible the booting files were located on another drive.
You would need to copy ntldr, ntdetect.com, and boot.ini to the drive (verify boot.ini is set to the correct partition). OSS should then pick it up.

[boot loader]
;timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(2)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP pro Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
Is this how it should look if its the second disk and only partition?

We are making progress. I upgraded to ver 11 since my ti is ver 11. OS now recognizes xo pro, but when I boot to it I get a message that says: Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware config problem. Also is there a way to access os while in windows? The previous version did that for me.

The boot.ini file should be pointing to the first partition on the first drive. Then enable the Disk Order option and make sure the XP Pro drive is first in the list for the XP Pro menu entry. In most cases, the file should be the same as the one on your XP Home drive.
If you don't swap the drives (by using the Disk Order option), reference Disk 2:
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS
Make the changes in both places in the file (there are two). The rdisk number is the one you want to change: 0 = drive 1; 1 = drive 2;
If OSS won't pick up the changes, you will need to edit the file from OSS.
What kind of access from Windows are you talking about?

I used to be able to load os from within windows using os_selector.exe. Now I can only access os from the acronis boot disk.
